Merged Obama enters GZ Mosque debate

I am? That doesn't sound like something I'd do. I'm not trying to prevent anyone from living downtown if they want to.

Or do you mean the Cordoba house people? Where everyone was cool with it until some islamaphobes started raising a stink? What happened to the free market? Let 'em build what they want, where they want, says I.

Freedom of religion: But only for Christianity.
Freedom of Speech: But only if you say what I agree with.

Who is stopping them? We can't even mention the "wisdom" of building it at that location. POTUS Obama found that out the hard way.

The Islamophobes are still trying to fight the denied landmark status.

A Tea-Bagger candidate for Governor wants to seize the site under Emminent Domain.

GOP loser candidate Lazio calls the Immam a "terrorist-supporter" and wants the whole thing investigated.

Clearly, folks are trying to stop this thing not just by appealing to the Cordoba folks, but through govt. action.

Jon Stewart's job is to try to find anything to make a joke with.

And what was Obama answering to? Both videos conveniently cut off the journalist's question to him. Maybe the journalist is the one who suggested the word "wisdom" in his question. Ever thought of that?

You're grasping at straws. Obama is acting like a true secular President. I know it's unusual for America.

Obama was talking out of both sides of his mouth there. He said he wouldn't comment (a good start, it's not an executive issue) on the wisdom of building it (implying that it isn't wise to build it there). Now he could have been playing politics - lipservice to the people who are against it, without sounding islamaphobic, but it just ended up sounding bad.

Not necessarily. He's just acknowledging that some people are questioning the wisdom of the the building's location, because there are. He's not putting any judgement value on the word "wisdom".

And he clearly says "I will not comment".

What does "wisdom" have to do with the free market? If there's a market to be found then someone will fill it, if there isn't it will fail. Seems pretty cut and dry to me. The only issues being raised are because they are in a religion america currently has a hate on for - we aren't going to overcome that until we grow the hell up.

He does, yes. But mentioning the wisdom as he did creates an inferred meaning to many that it is questionable. Maybe it was a slip of the tongue, I say stupid things all the time when my brain gets ahead of my mouth, but he's in a position where he needs to watch what he says or it'll be used against him politically.

Really, it may say nothing about his actual position but it sounds like he questions the wisdom of building it there.

He's just acknowledging that there is a debate about whether or not the Mosque should be built there.

And the way someone answers a question is always influenced by the the way the question was asked.

And the reporter asked POTUS Obama "What was your intention...." This is obvious as POTUS Obama's first words out of his mouth are, "My intention was to simply tell people what I thought."

I disagree with her on this issue and I disagree with lefty about her being not very bright. I've seen her speak on other issues and she is quite bright and is very involved in interfaith dialogue.

She just happens to be wrong here. I don't know why she thinks this Center is in "bad faith". Nor do I understand why she thinks Rauf -- whom she admits is a very tolerant and moderate Muslim with a solid reputation of speaking out against terrorism -- has sold his soul.

She bought the wrongwing radical's blather that it is right up against GZ. She better get her stuff in order before she opens her mouth.

I have yet to see any of the opponents offer a rational arguement, but I do see some racists getting beligerent. Also, it looks to me as though the numbers of protestors is dismally small compared to the alleged popularity of their cause.

Seems like twoofers can muster these numbers if they know AJ will be in town.

Jon Stewart doesn't understand English either, right?

By invoking the word "wisdom," POTUS Obama's opinion is obvious to everyone, unless you are Pardalis.

"Yes we can.... But should we?"

That's actually a very funny comment on Obama's position, and it mirrors his ambiguity brilliantly. Saying that Obama is dubious would be putting it too strongly. Basically, Obama is JAQing in a way that lets lots of people think he agrees with them when he hasn't actually done so.
