Looks like Polanski will get away again.

Well it seems to me like a country should be interested in justice. We have an extradition agreement with Switzerland so Mr. Polanski should be extradicted. I mean the victim was a little girl.

does such an agreement say whenever one of the 2 involved countries say"gimme that guy" the other country will " give em the guy" ? or are this kind of things a little bit more complicated?

btw the victim wants the case dismissed.

But it appears that is the issue i.e. the USA has not complied with that agreement:

Considering all the aspects of this case – and in particular the extradition request which is not satisfying as far as the presentation of the facts of the case is concerned and the principles of state action deriving from international public order – the extradition request has to be rejected

Whats so unsatisfying about it? The man drugged, sodomised and raped a 13 year old girl. He was tried and convicted after a fair trial. He would only have to stay in jail a few years. What makes him so special?

it seems the US failed to provided the needed evidence

He pled guilty, what more facts does there need to be?

He was never tried, he pled out. Then ran away from his plea bargain.

I don't see anything in the reports that indicates he is being treated any different to anyone else. The reports seem to be saying the USA has not meet the requirements of the extradition treaty between Switzerland and the USA.

Polanski claims that the judge agreed to a plea bargain, at which time he pled guilty, at which time the judge changed his mind and was going to increase his sentence, so he fled.
Apparently the Swiss asked for sealed testimony regarding Polanski's sentencing -- which I'm guessing would help evaluate whether Polanski's claim of being screwed with by the American judiciary has any merit. The U.S. didn't provide the testimony, so the Swiss refuse to extradite.
This seems quite reasonable to me.

Does anyone who knows more about the USA/Swiss extradition agreement know exactly what it is that the USA hasn't done?
