"Roman Polanski's political thriller "The Ghost Writer" has won the prize for best film at the European Film Awards.
Polanski's movie also is the winner in five other key European Film Academy categories, including best director and best actor for Ewan McGregor. Sylvie Testud from France won best actress in "Lourdes."

Roman Polanski Acknowledges Sex Crime in New Documentary

“She is a double victim: my victim, and a victim of the press,” Polanski says of Geimer in Laurent Bouzereau’s “Roman Polanski: A Film Memoir.” Polanski took to the stage at the Zurich Film Festival Tuesday to accept a lifetime achievement award two years after he was originally intended to receive it, as he was arrested and incarcerated in a Zurich prison at the request of U.S. authorities when he arrived to receive the honor in 2009.

I don't think that was in doubt. There was a plea bargain after all. What has been in doubt and still apparently is unclear , is the plea bargain supposed change or non binding.
What's the point of a non-binding plea bargain?

Plea bargains are made with the DA, not the judge. It's a promise that the DA will seek only a certain charge (or not seek only a certain charge) and ask for (or not) a specific sentence. It is binding in that a DA can't promise to throw out the death penalty in exchange for a guilty plea, and then immediately ask for the death penalty as soon as the guilty plea is entered and official.

The judge, however, is the one who decides a sentence. Of course this is done with the input of the DA's office and usually if they ask for a lighter sentence the judge will give it. Why that didn't happen in this case is unknown; but it's not suggestive of misconduct - judges really don't have to grant lenient sentences at the request of the prosecution if they believe justice would be better served otherwise.

What's in doubt is whether Geimer's story that she was anally and vaginally raped until Polanski climaxed is true, or Polanski's story that they had consensual vaginal intercourse and he did not climax is true.

(The results of the medical examination of Geimer's person were incompatible with Geimer's story and compatible with Polanski's so it shouldn't be in doubt, but for some reason it is. Some people's opinions are insensitive to mere facts).

If Polanski confirms Geimer's story I would be incredibly surprised but I would revise my views accordingly. I suspect that he has actually said nothing that he has not already said, and that this story is a beat-up.
