The hunt for Raoul Moat

Seven days to catch an armed fugitive holed up in dense countryside with assistance from others; not a bad result. Maybe we should send these police teams after Bin Laden.

And without any further loss to the public or law enforcement - Definately a double plus day all round

There's more that's fishy here that the thing that you couldn't get with your unavailable chips.

I don't like this outcome.

That's not because I want to see a murderer running around free, but I am a little worried that the guy wasn't looking at all like your average berserk and shoot yourself case.

I think my suspicions were aroused when the threat of wider danger to the general public was announced (we can't say what or how...), maybe there was some, but to me it seemed more like the police trying to lessen some empathy people seemed to be having with the man.

???

I wasn't aware of any public sympathy for him before the wider threat was announced and I don't think many people expected this to end any other way...

I have no idea what has made you so suspicious.

Although I'm not aware of any wide public sympathy for him, he did seem to be able to rely on support from a number of his friends, and there were people posting on his facebook page about how he was a "top bloke" after he'd shot three people.
Given that he died from a shotgun wound and he was the only one there with a shotgun, I can't see how this could have been anything but self inflicted. Unless there was a massive cover up, but then why would the police do that, why not just shoot him with one of their guns and say he was about to fire?

Plenty of people commenting on the Sky Discussions board were highly sympathetic to Moat.

gazza felt sorry for him and called him a gentleman. what better character reference than that?

Oh three "?"s

Well, Having watched this unfold, there was "empathy" expressed on various forums and there was a criminologist on BBC news earlier in the week who was shocked that anyone would have any sympathy for Moat at all, he did acknowledge that there was some. I also was surprised, however my shock doesn't make that expressed empathy go away.

Suspicion, well, let's see what unfolds. Some things can appear too convenient, it's then that we should be asking the questions, not just gobbling up what's being offered.

...and as for Gazza or anyone else's sympathy for him. It's not our judgement of the quality of that sympathy or indeed our judgement of their Judgement....but the fact that some has been expressed. So yes, there's the public sympathy you were not aware of and that I suspect the police were.

Are you saying that Moat collapsed at faster than free-fall speeds into his own footprint?

I also do not think he was a typical berserker of the Mr Bird kind, Reginald. But I am not sure what you are hinting at (if anything). Is that you think he was executed? Or something else? If you don't want to be more explicit that is fine too; but I am curious

I've been looking to see if I can find the timing of the Taser fire.

If a guy is holding a gun to himself and then suddenly finds various muscles contracting because of a taser, why shouldn't it be the trigger finger?

No, I don't think he was executed.

But I don't think his intention was to shoot himself either, and yes he did have a gun to himself.

The police found a dictaphone with 4 hours worth of rambling, he said the "rules had changed", due to a what the media had been saying about his past.

For what it's worth in the Newcastle and surrounds area Moat actually had a lot of "supporters". People who may not have actively helped him but have excused his behaviour. I spoke to two people today saying he had been "pushed to it" and understood why it happened. I had to walk away.

Did the Taser hit?
