Good question. Over here it would be democratic socialist. In her younger days she was the head of the Australian Union of Students, which is well left of centre.

She was also the secretary of the Socialist Forum, so yeah, definitely democratic socialist.

Well wait until she says she will get rid of policies that exist for religious reasons only.
- End tax deductions for religious organizations
- Make religious organizations pay tax
- Allow marriage between any two non related adults, not just between a man and a woman.

Thanks. I think what is important is what she campaigns for. There is nothing to say she is doing anything other than go for the popular vote, ahead of the National interest.

The Greens must be peeing in their pants with excitement, they're going to be the direct benefactors of this lurch to the right. There are seismic shifts rippling through the left in Australia atm, that and the way the ALP manage it (which will be poorly if recent events tell us anything) will be the biggest story to come out of the assassination of Krudd. Could well be the moment that minted The Greens as a permanent third-party fixture on the political landscape.

From what I understand the right faction were the ones who put her in power, so I guess she's just appeasing them.

No doubt about that, and the Democrats must be cursing they imploded. There is a real chance that this election or next the Greens will hold the balance of power in the House. A terrifying prospect indeed.
