"The Obama administration has not ruled out turning sick people away from an insurance program created by the new healthcare law to provide coverage for the uninsured.
Critics of the $5 billion high-risk pool program insist it will run out of money before Jan. 1, 2014. That’s when the program sunsets and health plans can no longer discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions.

Administration officials insist they can make changes to the program to ensure it lasts until 2014, and that it may not have to turn away sick people. Officials said the administration could also consider reducing benefits under the program, or redistributing funds between state pools. But they acknowledged turning some people away was also a possibility.
“There’s a certain amount of money authorized in the statute, and we will do our best to make sure that that amount of money insures as many people as possible and does as much good as possible,” said Jay Angoff, director of the Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). “I think it’s premature to say [what happens] when it’s gone.”

The administration has not discussed asking Congress for more money down the line if the $5 billion runs out before Jan. 1, 2014. Uninsured sick people could start applying for participation in the high-risk insurance pools on Thursday.

Healthcare experts of all stripes warned during the healthcare debate that $5 billion would likely not last until 2014. Millions of Americans cannot find affordable healthcare because of their pre-existing conditions, and that amount would only cover a couple hundred thousand people, according to a recent study by the chief Medicare actuary."

Palin in 2012!!!!

;)

Not even close, and you know it.

There is the possiblity that the system will run short of money, but there are ways to claw it back from members of the fat class who so benefitted from the Shrub's assault on the working class.

I, for one, would love to see Pain run in 2012.

It wouldn't be much of a race but the campaign would be hilarious.

Ditto!

It wouldn't be much of a race but the campaign would be hilarious.

That's like saying a Formula One event isn't much of a race because a car crashes and burns!

I think many of us only watch these things for the crashes. ;)

Because hilarity is so much more important than giving the American people an option besides the One.

Whoever the GOPers run next time out, the choice is most likely going to be between competant and and some degree of laughing-dog-coffee-spewed-on-the-keyboard stupid, so why not Caribou Barbie?

They might consider reducing benefits? Perhaps things like acupuncture, massage, chiropractic and other quackery would be cut. That would be a great thing.

I would see it as more likely that they would go to a triage system.

First priority, those who will die without treatment but who cannot pay out of pocket or from their health plan.

Second priority, those who would benefit greatly from treatment but cannot afford it.

Third priority, those who can pay their own way.

Kick the rich to the curb first.

Mmm, guess you don't understand Triage. It's not about money, that can be conjured from thin air.

And the first category is "those who might benefit from treatment, but are unlikely to make a complete recovery, and will die shortly afterward even if treatment is received".

They get the same consideration you would give to the rich.

The sexy way of saying this is "Death Panel"

Some people are dumber than Sarah Palin. Scary.

No, because the GOP and the politically right need to have a tangible reminder of what happens when you flirt with extremes, and because so far I've seen nothing resembling an actual "option" coming from the Right outside of "no to Obama" or "no to Democrats" as a basic strategy and tactic.

Because hilarity is so much more important than giving the American people an option besides the One.

But Obama already is the option besides the One!

Hey if the republicans nominate her, then it is their own fault. But there is lots of chance for comedy gold well before the nominations are finalized.

The rich have gotten too much? Do not forget that the top 10% of wealth in the US pays out over 60% of the total income tax in the country. They are in charge of the companies that provide jobs for the rest of us. The Constitution guarantees that pursuit of happiness but never in said document does it say that everything will ever be handed to the masses on a silver platter. Yes, healthcare costs are ridiculous in the US, take a closer look at why that is. Emergency room visits are among the most expensive costs in healthcare and what do most people do when they get hurt without insurance? Go to the ER and expect the government to foot the bill. Maybe if more spent less on other things such as cell phones, televisions, cars, and other items that are way out of their budget they could afford privatized healthcare like many Americans do possess. Maybe if they got up off their butts are worked instead of relying on handouts they could afford some nicer things. Do not get me wrong, the idea of socialized healthcare is wonderful, everyone having access to medical needs, but at what cost? Why should the country as a whole be forced to pay for everyone else? Why should we, the tax payers, have to give up money each year to pay for stupid mistakes that are made on a daily basis such as gang shootings, people getting in car wrecks that end up in Intensive Care because they are too stupid to buckle up or get off their cell phone while on the road.

If you have any pride whatsoever in providing for you and your family, why would you want to curtail to the government and expect them to give them everything for you? Is that not demeaning?

Socialized healthcare will put the United States into severe debt, much worse than we are currently in, why support something that makes it worse?

Don't get me wrong, I want accessible healthcare for those who need it and have no means of obtaining it. But that should be reserved for the disabled, not those looking for a handout that are capable of gainful employment.

Sorry for the rant.

Palin was right? Well what exactly did she say? Let's see:

Palin said:
"The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's ‘death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil."

Has the bolded part been shown to be true?
