C'mon, cut the poor guy some slack. Everyone knows that old habits die hard.
You know, in some ways I have to stand in awe of the dude's utter arrogance. You'd think he'd realize that no one gets more than one colossal break in life. He got his when he killed an American girl, confessed to it on freaking videotape, and still walked, thanks primarily to his dad being a legal big shot in Aruba. Anything resembling a normal person should have told themselves to get their act together and lay low for awhile, especially after dad dies and takes with him that bubble of protection that's been keeping his ass out of jail. But what does our Joran do instead? He decides to extort his victim's family, by (and there's the part I really don't get) revealing where her body is buried. I mean, was his feeling of immunity so complete that he figured he could say "sure, I killed her, here's the body in fact" and still just continue on with his life like nothing ever happened? (Although given the Aruban response of simply shrugging off his earlier videotaped confession, I suppose his attitude might be understandable.) He gets a down payment out of the extortion deal, uses it to finance a quick jaunt to Peru, and promptly kills again, with robbery the apparent motive (or at least one of them anyway). Holy moly, what a piece of work.
