Merged Israel Attacks Palestinian Aid Flotilla, According To Reports

Israel is going to prosecute activists who resisted an illegal boarding by Israeli soldiers in international waters?????

They were attempting to run a blockade. The Israelis were legally entitled to stop them.

:p
Do you know what had happened before the videos start or what was happening elsewhere on the vessel?

Furthermore, the activists had every right to repel a lawless act of piracy. From all angles the IDF appears to have acted with remarkable stupidity and incompetence.
Yes, a UFO landed on the read of the ship.

You keep pedalling the same drivel about piracy. How about reading the previous posts regarding naval blockade and exclusion zones.

Do riot police kill people as a first response to rioters? Israeli forces are very experienced in responding non-lethally to enraged activists and have plenty of equipment with which to do it. Why send in hyped-up, trained-to-kill commandos?
Yes. After the cummulative 100th customary strike by a metal pipe, 10th heinous stab, 5th activist pistol shot, and a patridge in a pear tree one is permitted to shoot in self-defense. Clear?

Despite the helpfully provided IDF videos :) , we don't know for sure what happened except that the Israelis attacked the civilian boat with armed, armored, military commandos and that, understandably, these extremely dangerous killers were resisted with whatever was to hand.
....
Their aggressive assault was illegal not to mention completely botched. They had no right to board the vessel in international waters.

The Israeli blockage of Gaza has also been declared illegal.
Yep, UN representatives declared it illegal, hence its de facto illegal.

Actually, Israel used ninjas.

well i didn't know Hamas terrorists were on the ship. in that case i support how Israel acted.
Don't play dumb DC.

How do you arrest Hamas members engaged in rocket and mortar attacks on Israel?

Send in a squad car with 2 policemen inside to pick them up?

And I take it from this thread you wish that ships were allowed to sail directly to Gaza? Do you think maybe, just maybe, Iran and Syria would use that opportunity to send weapons to Gaza?

i didn't hear of any hamas member, terrorists, rocket and mortars on the ship.
and cop cars don't drive on international waters afaik.

And, of course, it's not anti-semitism at all! No no no... it's just that Israel is held to a higher standard you see.... it's just pure coincidence they're a Jewish state.

Israel is held to a higher standard because they ask to be treated differently. How many other "western-style democracies" have not signed the NPT (and possess hundreds of nukes), and have a quasi-Apartheid state in occupied territories, and an inhumane embargo imposed on 1.5 million civilians?

Don't dodge the questions DC.

Man up and answer it.

They did?

And here we go with the word-redefinition propaganda war again.

Israel was left with enemy territory and people their enemies no longer wanted after fighting 4 wars in which they attempted to completely destroy Israel. Apparently, this is akin to "asking to be held to a higher standard"?

No one is starving in Gaza, no one is dying due to lack of medications or medical equipment. And countries like Iran and Syria are still attempting to arm Hamas with bigger rockets and other more powerful weapons... and you think this is the time to allow ships to sail directly to Gaza?

No other country would be expected to do so, but Israel is held to a "higher standard".

why do i have to answer a question about how hamas terrorist best are arrested or killed on land, in a thread about the IDF boarding an aid convoy where no terrorists were on board?

so you can later cry i am posting off topic?

ETA: and you still own me an answer.

Israel is going to prosecute activists who resisted an illegal boarding by Israeli soldiers in international waters????? That makes a whole lot of sense.
So in your utopia, trying to kill soldiers of a foreign power when they stop you for running a blockade is legal?

Is Zach a troll or is he for real?
Does this answer your question?
That brought a chuckle to my face.

Hsilgne tcefrep kaeps I! nacirema laer a ma i!

Question: why does Zach write with such a botched English? I would think the average Israel would speak rather good English, given that it's a relatively small language and a modern country and thus probably have mandatory English classes, like Norway and other small countries?

Why do it with a military attack?

They ignored appeals on the radio to divert to another port. What were the Israeli choices at that point? Pretend not to have seen the flotilla and go home? Sink the flotilla? Or land troops on the vessel and compel them to divert? Any other options spring to mind? I'm sure there are lots of people who would have preferred the first option. I'm sure there are lots of people who would have relished the second option, and others still who would not have been in the least bit surprised. Realistically the Israelis weren't ever going to do either of those; taking control of the ships must have seemed the best option.

As for the dramatic style of the boarding; there is speculation that they rappelled down onto the deck rather than climbing aboard because the Mavi Marmara was too big to make that a safe option. It seems that it it wasn't much of a safety improvement after all.

it is not illegal to violate an illegal blockade.

But the blockade is not illegal. Is this becoming another mantra like the one that means nobody can mention the "Iraq War" without prefixing it with the word "Illegal"?

Israel has no right to hold or prosecute any of these people.
Unfortunately that's not the case.

You pretend (or delude yourself) that “Gazans” are the sole cause of the assaults against them and other Palestinians and then make them responsible for the war being waged against them.

It's my understanding that things were, relatively speaking, good for the people of Palestine in the 1990s, then along came the second intifada, oops, cue things starting to suck, and suck hard for the Palestinians due to a choice made by their leadership.

But the blockade is not illegal.

since when is it legal to block almost all trade with a non-soveriegn entity under your ultimate control, just because you disagree with an election?

The Gaza blockade is illegal. Egypt today opened its border for all Palestinian traffic, so now Israel is the only one doing the blockading. Hopefully enough goods can get through the Egyptian side so that the people no longer have to suffer.

98 people of the sect Ahmadi were killed over the weekend in Pakistan, 10 more later were attacked at the hospital where they were treated. 20 000 Sri Lankans were killed two years ago and I didn't see anyone on the streets to protest, only world government said it was "unfortunate loss of life". 500 Kurds murdered here, 35 thais murdered there, Iranian protesters emprisonned and tortured everyday...

I'm just saying there you guys have a very selective outrage.

You are comparing apples and oranges. We let Israel sit at the adults' table, so when they don't act like adults of course we feel outrage.

There is a huge difference between a bunch of radicalised ill-educated poverty striken extremists killing indiscriminately, and the standing army of a UN member killing non-nationals in international waters to defend a much-condemned and illegal blockade.

Simply put, Israel gets special treatment (in the form of aid, arms, technology, investment, trade and diplomacy), and thus must be held to special standards (ie the same standards the other western countries are held to).

Also please can someone explain how the blockade is legal under international law. Obfuscation and bluster aside, there is literally no legal justification for maintaining the blockade once the UN has condemned it.

Perhaps you use the same logic that explains how settlement building in palastinian land is legal.

He'll run away. Same as Parky. Perhaps you can quote to Parky the:

San Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at Sea, 12 June 1994
SECTION VI : CAPTURE OF NEUTRAL MERCHANT VESSELS AND GOODS
...
(f) are breaching or attempting to breach a blockade.

He still seems to be peddling how this is not the case.
