Yeah, my kid's elementary doesn't have a dedicated science teacher. Science is taught by the grade level teachers along with math, reading, social studies, and gun safety.
There may be something to these stereotypes...

The school has one dedicated Art, Music, and Science teacher and Three PE coaches.
They had to cut the budget so they cut the Science teacher. The students' general elementrary classroom teachers will be picking up those lessons. In my opinion, it would be better to cut the Art, Music, or PE teacher.
Its not a crusade, my 5 are all grown up now. But you see, your post is exactly what is wrong with our educational system. Your interpretation of my views are completely skewed of anything I've ever said.rjwould is on a crusade against Education as it is in the US. Sadly, though, what he offers as an alternative is the old "Progressive Education" BS, and we know how well that worked.........
There is lots that is wrong with public education in the US, but 60's style touchy feelly "let the kid do what he wants " crap is not the answer.
You need to learn to think critically of this current system instead of just regurgitating what you've swallowed.
He just wants to fiddle with the current system which needs to be scraped and replaced with something that actually educates rather than indoctrinates. Thats not CT. And to argue that it is CT is revealing about the education you both have received. You see, CT requires examination of the self first and the myths one has accepted as reality. Only afterwards can a person begin to view true alternatives. Too bad this stuff was never taught to us during all those years we spent institutionalized. But the good news is that there is life after school where undoing what had been done is possible, but its a choice. I made that choice. So when he said "There is lots that is wrong with public education in the US", you interpreted that as an inability to think critically of the current system?
I think the problem is that he's also able to think critically of your suggested changes.
A dedicated science teacher that the kids go to once a week is not.
The current system does educate, unless you want to argue that the education received in America is poor in comparison to that received in, say, Somalia. He just wants to fiddle with the current system which needs to be scraped and replaced with something that actually educates rather than indoctrinates.
