I love Dr. Nancy Snyderman of NBC

So that people like you, don't take my words out of context, here's my original posting;

"Funny even your link from wikipedia states this;

"Saline solutions are available in various formulations for different purposes. Salines are also used in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry experiments."
Hmm, I wonder what form of saline they could think up, that would help them pass a bogus FDA safety standard? Maybe a placebo/saline that resembles the same devices as the vaccine perhaps?

by the looks of it..

Who funded this study? The pharmaceutical company?"

I'm talking about the different types of saline they stated above, on the link someone here gave me for wikipedia on "saline medicine".

I'm talking about they(the vaccine maker/tester) can be USING.. or develop a saline solution which also has the same adjuvants as the vaccine, just for that study or for other studies.

What I am referring to is, in the vaccine are the devices, the adjuvants and the squalene, the needle/syringe is the delivery system.

DUH! I'm a science wiz, I know what saline solution is.. did you not see how I posted WIKI's statement here;

"Saline solutions are available in various formulations for different purposes. Salines are also used in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry experiments."
FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES... VARIOUS FORMULATIONS!!!

What part do you not understand?

That's if it is saline solution. Who is doing the study here? Where would it show me the vaccine ingredients for this study? and the saline solution (all of the ingredients, if there's more ingredients than just your normal saline solution, in the study, than is being stated)

I do accept a placebo as a control group, giving nothing(not one thing different but the vaccine), where the uncontrolled group gets something (the vaccine)

Really? Cause I've seen a study from Canada, that claimed they were using a "placebo" when in reality they didn't openly explain they were using another vaccine as a placebo.... Hep A shot.

Don't think that study exists? here it is..

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/03/100309161828.htm

"Children were randomly assigned according to community to receive standard dosing of either inactivated trivalent influenza vaccine or hepatitis A vaccine, which was used as a control."

This is the same case other studies.

Bwahaaaahaaa haaaaa ahaaaa!!!!

Yo, your blood is mostly saline. Saline is in every cell of your body practically. Hence using it as placebo... cuz you're already mostly saline! What is saline? Salt water, mostly. It does not cause your immune system to react to it the way it would any actual antigen. Gawd!!!

On another note...Your liver also makes squalene all day long, as it is an ingredient in the sebum that keeps your skin from becoming dry and icky. It is a great ingredient for you body and exists in it already.

water is not a toxin

it can be bad for your body and you could drown in water, but its not the molecules of the water that are hurting you, its the fact that you can't breathe cause you have something in your throat clogging your air ways

WRONG. Drink a bunch and don't pee, for two days, loads of it. Go ahead. 10 litres a day for two days and DON'T PEE, for anything. Then come back and tell me it's not toxic. I'm waiting...

Easy.
<snip>

Yes, yes we get it. You're sure vaccines are evil, so sure you lost your kid over it.
BigPharma is bad, Ron Paul is good; sheeple are dumb; the Federal Reserve is evil; Alex Jones is good; "pure" water is good; processed food is bad....

Now, any facts to support your arguments? I can wait....

Just a reminder that this new member has been suspended. He seems to not have read and understood the posted rules.

He also does not understand the problems inherent with using too much internet social networking, especially when one page links his to pseudonym with his real name (and it was a very boring Sunday... though I did make fresh pasta with the pasta maker my brother gave me!). Just to say that his nickname is his real attitude, and I actually sympathise with him on dealing with smokers at work.

While I sincerely doubt we can change his mind, I believe he should be treated gently and patiently. He should be required to provide evidence for his claims, and that evidence shlould be real science. The means no random websites nor news articles. Looking at some of his websites (and there are many), he definitely needs to be introduced to a revised version of Scopie's Law:
Wow. That one Google search changed everything. Okay, fine, I'm convinced he is not a troll, and will take this thread more seriously from now on:boggled:.

Woman dies after water-drinking contest. Excerpt:
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A woman who competed in a radio station’s contest to see how much water she could drink without going to the bathroom died of water intoxication, the coroner’s office said Saturday.
Given all the people all over the world who have made fun of this poor woman, I am pretty surprised you have not heard of her.

Sorry, I do not believe he is a deliberate troll. He does seem to have some anger management issues (edit to add, and possibly delusional). Perhaps my attitude is clouded by the last Skeptics Meetup where the LaRouchies were invited. They were exactly like this guy, including all of the random insults.

The one guy really did not understand my question of how do they expect to be taken seriously when they use inflamatory language like calling anyone who disagrees with them "traitors."

nope, you had established nothing, not all chemicals are a like.

we're talking about two different types of chemicals altogether...

one type is taken by the gut = that would be food

another type is taken by the arm = that would be the vaccine

vaccines act differently than food does, why? cause for one, we digest foods through our gut, we do not digest vaccines through our gut.

so regardless of the doseage, being in the arm, is going to harm the body more than in the gut, the gut has greater defenses, the arm does not.

Oral Vaccines, They exist, I've had them. they go into you gut, does that make them food?

Already been pointed out that water is a toxin. Australian Army trains there troops on the dangers of this, due to prolonged exertion in hot conditions. They have to add salt/electrolyte tables to their water to counter this

Thou as you said earlier to my question nothing will change your mind. In this case you are a man of blind faith, and not of science.

He is a man of blind faith, he has mentioned many a time that he and his children do not use vaccines and live "healthly". This is his belief, he has come here to spread his belief to others and encounters people who call him on this.

How do you react, Do you rationally re-evaluate your beliefs and realize the years of enacting them may not be correct, or do you put the blinkers on and defend them blindly. He is doing the later.

There is nothing wrong with eating healthy, watching your diet etc. But doing this in lieu of Vaccines it wrong, as every other poster here, and the scientific community at large point out.

He also has a misinformed view on science, which does not help. I doubt any amount of evidence will change his blind faith, and for that, I feel sorry for his children. (edit to explain, I believe it his right to do what ever he wants to his own body, smoke, not take vaccines etc, but to take the same choices to his kids is not a good thing)

Why "don't pee"? That doesn't have anything to do with water toxicity.

You hold in that much water, and you will die... You know what happens to the body don't you?

It could distend the bladder but it's my understanding that the kidneys will continue to process water as part of making urine.

That does seem to describe him more accurately than I did.

Travis is right. There's two different things going on here. One is simple urinary retention. If you drink a lot of water, your kidneys will make a lot of urine, and if you don't pee you could rupture your bladder. In a more chronic situation, urine can back up, distend the renal pelvis, and cause molecules that should be excreted (like urea and creatinine) to accumulate in the blood and ECF.

The other is water poisoning, which is just about possible, and doesn't require urinary retention at all. If you drink that much, it overwhelms the ability of the kidneys to keep the tonicity of the ECF at the right level (principally the sodium concentration). The ECF is essentially saline, and it's necessary for life that the sodium concentration stay somewhere between 130 and 160 mmol/l. If it drops way low, as it can do with massively excessive water consumption (or Addison's disease), all sorts of weird things start to happen internally, like shrinkage of the brain (or is it swelling, I'd need to figure that out....), neurological signs, and eventually death.

There's a recorded case of a man who poisoned himself with water over a bank holiday weekend. He had toothache, and couldn't get a dentist. He spent the weekend drinking very cold water to dull the pain in his tooth. He was taken to hospital pretty much comatose on the Monday. The doctor said, suck an ice-cube, idiot! He wasn't holding back his urine though, why should he? That's not related to water poisoning at all.

Rolfe.

What rolfe said, but less technical, You drink too much water, it flushes saline out of your body as you pee/sweat, saline content goes below what the brain and other body parts can handle, you die. The brine around your brain requires a certain level of salt for the brain to function correctly, but over hydrating, you change this balance.

You hold in that much water, and you will die...

No you won't. Once your kidneys make urine your body's done with it. None of it gets reabsorbed. The only effect it can have at that point is mechanical - building up enough pressure to rupture the bladder or to stop the kidneys from working. That has nothing to do with water toxicity.

The problem isn't that you can't easily get rid of all that water. You can. The problem is that some of your body's sodium necessarily goes along with that water into the urine. Normally, this isn't an issue, but when you are trying to get rid of huge amounts of water you take with it substantial amounts of sodium, thereby depleting your total body sodium. Electrolyte concentrations have to be maintained within a fairly narrow range for proper functioning and this includes sodium. When your sodium concentration drops substantially below that level, you develop serious problems - mostly neurologic - which can lead to death.

You know what happens to the body don't you?

As a matter of fact, I do.

Looks like our little friend has taken off and decided not to come back after his suspension.

Why have the words “whirlwind of stupid” popped into my head?

Closed? I've opened my eyes to the corruption. You have not my friend.

You ever see those noisy guys on the street corners wearing sandwich-board signs that read "The End is Nigh!"? Yeah, well, that's you, cupcake.

I don't have the inclination to slog through three more pages of this blather looking for it, but did you ever answer 3point14's question if you're a doctor or not? I'd bet good money I already know the answer, but humor me. I suspect you're of that fascinating school of thought that the best way to know what you're talking about is to have nary a goddamn clue what you're talking about.

* Emotional Instability
* Disturbed Sleep
* Impaired Intellect
* Loss of Coordination
* Flatulence

These are all symptoms of drinking lots of beer. Maybe it's not the alcohol in the beer, but the aluminum cans themselves that get people drunk!

Dr. Nancy Snyderman is NBC's chief medical editor. This morning she did a profile of Dr. Paul Offit, author of the new book Autism's False Prophets.

The profile was pretty good, not great, it missed a few points. But check out what happened during the "outro" after the report. Dr. Snyderman had mentioned that she personally had been "physically ambushed" by anti-vaccine people, and then she totally got into Matt Lauer's face about referring to the vacccines/autism thing as "controversial."

It was a sight to behold:

Kudos, Dr. Snyderman, kudos.

Is it too late to give Matt Lauer a vaccine for spinelessness? When did this idiotic trend start where both sides of an argument have to be given the assumption of equal validity?

The anti-vaccine people are kooks, Matt. Stop treating them like their beliefs have any more merit than Truthers and Flat-earthers.
