Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

Hey Doc:

The Amanda Knox Cartwheel thread has almost as many posts as this thread - it's catching up rapidly. It has about as much evidence for Knox's innocence as this thread has that we know the New Testament writers were telling the truth.

You could, you know, win this by simply posting some evidence...

Then who created the 900 verses Thomas Jefferson cut out of the bible and said were the most moral and sublime teaching ever preached to humanity -- liars and charlatans?

Question for DOC:

Who created the Greek mythologies?

Before you claim this is off-topic, be aware that it is directly related to your question to Joobz.

Likewise, Atheists, give it up. Sure you can prove that much of the NT is undeniably false. But you can never prove a Negative, namely that God (or Gods or some form of Universal Sentience) doesn't exist.
It can be shown that a so-called god explains nothing since it can be anything anyone wants it to be, therefore in fact it is nothing.

Paul

:) :) :)

So there.

Of course Pax :), I lean politically and scientifically towards Atheism myself, yet I can't shake the feeling the Universe is Sentient at some level (I can't prove it though).

So when I'm being Longwinded I call myself a Nontheistic Pagan Agnostic (Atheist is such a politically loaded term nowadays)...and sometimes a Gnostic Agnostic when I'm horsing around. I certainly don't believe in a personal Deity that micromanages ALL, or Predestiny and all the rubbish that goes with that view.

But I do find it intriguing that many denominations of Christianity and Materialist Reductionism have something in common. The Former posits Theological Determinism and the Latter Scientific Determinism. Neither gives much credence to Free Will.

Anyway, just a few thoughts so you know where I'm coming from.

So there.

Semantics proves nothing either way. But I agree that Deities are a human construction.

Are you saying that because you are Jewish (like Christ was), and the Jews spent 400 years in slavery in Egypt and Babylon?

You got a cite for that Egyptian nonsense, DOC?

Stop this drivel.

Who created the quotation in Post #12602, DOC?

I was once asked if my handle was a compound word standing for "jewish boobs"

Are those the circumcised ones?

Nah, they're the fruity ones.

It's not off topic to prove you really believe what you are saying?

Once again: the firmness of your convictions has nothing to do with whether or not they are actually true. Son of Sam really believed that dog was telling him to kill those people.

And I see that you have finally discovered the question mark but are still hazy on how to use it.

Then who created the 900 verses Thomas Jefferson cut out of the bible and said were the most moral and sublime teaching ever preached to humanity -- liars and charlatans?

<<sigh>> The New Testament - and, in fact, all the Bible - could very well have been written by people of sincere but mistaken beliefs. I think it probably was. Why do you persist in this strawman that anyone here besides you has said the authors of the New Testament were liars and charlatans?

p.s. Congratulations - you got that question mark right.

Give a specific post that I made and then explain specifically why you think it has a fallacy, and then I will respond to your specific explanation.
Then who created the 900 verses Thomas Jefferson cut out of the bible and said were the most moral and sublime teaching ever preached to humanity -- liars and charlatans?
DOC, do you agree or disagree that this is an example of the Fallacy of Argument from Authority?

Why do you think referencing prominent black leaders is relevant in a discussion of Jesus condoning the beating of slaves?
Why do you keep using the word slaves when you know 9 translations translate the word for that particular Jewish culture as servant?

Why do you respond to simple, straightforward questions with questions rather than answers?

It is not a argument from authority, because I am not saying the bible is true because Thomas Jefferson cut out 900 verses. In fact it is more of a question than it is an argument.

He who lives by the sword gets blown to bits by those who live by the gattling gun

DOC, you're arguments are pathetic; thinly veiled lies for your messiah

OK... so it's a question

10 out of 10 for pedantry

Minus several gazillion for credibility

It's a question that INVOLVES a 'Fallacy of Argument from Authority', and you know it

Stop lying and start thinking

Because in this instance the question contained the word slave when the vast majority of the evidence says that for the word should be translated as servant. Some skeptics go nuts when I say Sir W. M. Ramsay says gospel writer Luke was a great historian but they are "loosey goosey what the heck" when joobz continues to use the word slavery when 9 translations say the word is servant. I thought joobz was supposed to be a scientist. That loosey goosey fudging for your argument's sake is not appropriate for someone who is supposed to be an impartial scientist. But I have a feeling it will continue, like it has for over a year.

And why do you falsely imply that this is something I often do (respond to a question with a question) when I doubt I've done it more than twice in 4700 posts. More attack the messenger -- even if the attack is misleading.

DOC, what is the difference between a ''servant and a slave''? Payment only?
Some servants in Saudi Arabia are treated worse than slaves ever were.
