Obama vs. Bush Derangement Syndrom

Or is it the other way around?

It's somewhat unfair to compare, BDS has had some 8 years to develop, whereas ODS hasn't even lasted for a year and a half.
On the other hand, though, BDS began the trend, and I can fully imagine it was partially responsible for development of ODS. "Look at what they were saying about our guy, now it's payback time" kind of thing, I guess.

Both positions are comparably ridiculous. We had a thread about it the other day, didn't we?

Bush was an idiot and a blatent liar. Obama is a shady politician -- but not the worst I've seen. I see no derangement in me. Please note that my opinions of leaders come from what they actually say and do, rather than what the press says about them.

Well if you only listen to what a politician says all you're going to get is lies. That's pretty much any politician. Look at the bigger picture and understand the full context.

And don't forget all the cases of voter fraud with ACORN in 2008. Oh wait, that was in Obama's favor, never mind.

Seriously? Registration fraud is not the same as voter fraud. Not that its a good thing, but is there any evidence that these registration fraud cases led to a single illegitimate vote?

Is there evidence that the recounts in florida in 2000 led to the wrong president being elected? And what happened in 2004, I thought that was pretty straight forward.

Please explain to me how some alleged registration fraud can compare to the Florida 2000 shenanigans. When I think of where some of those ballots ended up... the folks who handle elections over here would disembowel themselves in shame with a spoon if half as much happened on their watch.

Who said he's a communist? I thought he was a socialist?

Can you even tell the difference? They´re both smears conservatives like to use against anyone they don´t like.

Nice case of CDS there, Chaos: Conservative Derangement Syndrome. :p

The problem with all of the various DS is that they interfere with a civil, objective, intelligible discourse on topic from A to Z.

Choosing to employ them is a deliberate tactic in choosing not to address the problem at hand.

Gutless, when you see it in use.

"Here, let's toss some more chaffe about so we don't discuss the real problem, which is the rats eating the wheat."

I think the ODS is worse.. the Obama hate actually fueled an arms frenzy that is still going on strong and has racial undertones.

What arms frenzy? What racial undertones? You're going to play the race card? Yes there are racists out there, but disagreeing with Obama, and even hatred for him does not equal racist. In my circles I hear plenty of complaints about Obama based on what he has done or said. Not on his color.

Agreed, but let's face it, a lot of the teabagger rhetoric has a nasty Racial edge about it.
Once again we see confirmation bias at work "The Other Side has all the crazies".

Like people on the Left have never used smears against anyone they don't like.

For some reason wearing of Political Blinders like this drives me crazy.

Got any more stereotypes about Gun Owners?
I would be careful about accusing anybody of being in a frenzy after that rant.

I own A gun. (i'll add i'm a out door fun loving sun burned fishin, hunting, dirt digging farming boy.. if i have to quantify that hehe)

BTW, what was the rant?? someone said i basically made up the accusation and i provided links to the facts. I also stated my own experiences and i have no sympathy or support for people who buy guns and assault weapons because they're racist bigots.

But that's just my point. I know this. I also know that pretty much all that you will get from the mainstream press is the politics of division, because that's what gets ratings.

So I prefer whitehouse.gov, and other sources which are a bit more direct. I don't believe everything they say, of course... but what they choose to say (and the way they say it), whether true or not, reveals something about them.

For the record, I am a registered democrat, but I merely find them to be the lesser of two evils. There is no party out there that I fully relate to. The primary reason that I am a Dem is because they usually seem to be slightly more honest, and much more open minded.

Isn't at least part of that attributable to a fear -- whether justified or not -- that guns laws were going to get harder under Obama, given the stereotypical left's position on gun ownership (and, IIRC, some policy statements during the campaign)?

Or, to be more direct: is racism the only explanation, or could you show your work between more gun sales and racism?

Unjustifiable fear was still unjustified fear. That most certainly isn't an excuse and ads to the ver ODS we're speaking to.

My direct experience though is that everyone I witnessed who jumped on the bandwagon to buy more guns did so because of the fear you speak of and because the dude was a black man who isn't a US citizen and they couldn't trust.

The same people that instilled the fear of guns being taken away instilled the fear of him not being a US citizen, instilled the fear of him being a commie, a socialist and an America hater. Its one form of racism or another and all forms of racism are because people are willfully and purposefully ignorant of the facts at hand.

I know MANY people who have more guns then i have forks and spoons in my kitchens and they're happily enjoying them and they didn't buy into the whole ODS because they knew better. I don't have a problem with these people be them black/white republican/liberal/libertarian or whatever they believe.

I will stand by the statement i made earlier though that you would literally have to be living under a rock or in a HIGHLY progressive/liberal area to not witness this and it most certainly quantifies as an excessive ODS over the BDS :)
