Perhaps if the discussions were only carried out by people who actually read the threads concerned before adding their own contributions, things would stay a bit more rational?
I think this is not really a reasonable position to take, but it's one that I've heard from lots of posters in the VfF threads.
If that's the only place you've read it, you may need to broaden your horizons. It's a fairly common idea, not just on internet forums, but pretty much anywhere that conversations occur.

In a perfect world, everyone would enter the discussion only after reading all of the background material, but who's going to do that?
I'd assume anyone who wants to appear as though they know what they're talking about.
YMMV

I was hear from the beginning, so I have read it.
Whear?

I can't imagine that if I were a newcomer that I would go back and read every tedious and repetitive post in every thread about VfF before posting an opinion.
I can't either, really. The trouble is that the tedious and repetitive posts were made by the type first/read later people to begin with.
See how that works?
wardenclyffe said:
Of course, that might mean that my opinion would be mistaken.
Yup. it almost certainly would, unless you got lucky. I haven't seen much of that happening though.
wardenclyffe said:
If that were the case, then I'd hope that the folks with more experience would gently inform me about what I was missing.
Hope springs eternal, but research generally doesn't. You have to actually do that.
It's the gentle informing of every single newcomer that makes VfF threads so repetitive and tedious. Again, see how that works?

Instead I might be attacked as unworthy of posting here.
Nah. The MA will protect you from that.

It's just not helpful. It's a little like the Scientology threads where FredCarr never tells anyone about Scientology, but just answers all questions with "read the book." I don't think that makes people want to read the book.
That depends on the person's desire to engage FredCarr (and other scilons). I know far more about scientology than he does, and I didn't need his help or his encouragement to arrive at that position.
Knowledge is free.

These pages need not be reserved for special people who've done ALL the research.
No, they don't. They need to be preserved for everybody to read before they buy into the issues therein.

There's already
www.stopvisionfromfeeling.com for those who study her more intensely, and there's the "private room" at that website for the super-duper VfF scholars.
Horse/cart thingy, mate. SVfF was created, at least in part, to escape the morass of VfF threads in this Forum.
Private room? Super-duper VfF scholars? That really bothers some people, doesn't it? I'll bet the people who inhabit the room of which you speak are laughing their socks off about it..

I see no reason for all the vitriol aimed at the membership here when they ask questions or even make statements out of ignorance. It just makes this forum a much less friendly place.
I wonder why the same vitriol hasn't affected SVfF.

I remember the member of the Forsythe Area Critical Thinkers (FACT) who began posting here on VfF's activities with that group. He had not read every post by/about her (and there were a lot fewer of them then), but he came here to report on his observations of her in his local skeptics group. He was treated so poorly by the regulars that he simply went away. And we lost a source of potentially good information about this case.
Maybe he didn't disappear at all. Maybe he just went and joined the Sanctum Sanctorum at SVfF to get away from the noise here.

Who knows what each new poster might be bringing to the table? I find it unfortunate that "attack" seems to be the mode that so many of us live in.
Well, those of you that live in that mode should strive to improve yourselves, I guess. That's what I'd do.

And, yes I ended that last sentence with a preposition.
That I can live with.

And so I end this diatribe,
