Locking people up for being wrong (or disagreeing with the accepted view) is something a fascist governent would do.

Also, it gives ammo to the Holocaust deniers ("the truth shouldn't need the law to protect it" etc.).

On a similar note, there was a thread started here a few weeks ago that said something like "Hitler never used the term "master race"". Now, I knew that was false, and that Hitler had said it more than once in Mein Kampf. However, seeing as I live in Germany at the moment, I could not go and buy a copy to prove it, because the book is banned here. I didn't want ot risk downloading it either, and you can get into trouble just for that.

But why ban a book that can prove a holly denier wrong? Why ban any book, for that matter.

Hmmm. My girlfriend is German, and nearly 40, so she should know this. She's out at the moment, but I will ask her. But I'm pretty sure that she didn't read it at school. (That would be a bit mad, wouldn't it?)

I know that it is not in any bookshops that I have been to in Berlin. I've looked several times. (Couldn't find The Talmud either (I read lots of religious books), which was a wtf moment, and when I tried to find an online version (this was about 2 years ago) I got a message saying that the site wasn't available because it had racist content. I don't think they were actually refering to the Talmud, but again it was a hilariously stupid thing to happen)

I'm going to find out if I'm "allowed" to read it before clicking the link. That's the insane thing about it. I'm English and my grandfather was a genuine WW2 Nazi killing machine (he had a box full of medals, and was even allowed to keep his gun until the day he died, when the police came and took it away. He was a sniper who was sent out on secret missions. He told me that he killed Hitler, but I think he was probably exaggerating.) They would probably do nothing, even if it is "banned".

Does anyone know? I'm searching on the web about this at the moment, but there are so many conflicting stories.

Reading betwen the lines there, it seems that what is actually going on is tha the government (Bavaria, not all of Germany) owns the copyright and is using that to prevent new publication. The article as about what the effects will be when that copyright expires in 2015.

I guess things have changed alot in Germany over the last 20 years.

Berlin in 2010 is a weird place. Normally peaceful - the people are wonderful, the crime rate is low, food and beer is cheap etc. But a few weeks ago I saw about 10 policemen beating the **** out of some kids on a railway track. I thought they must have been shooting a film at first. Shocking. That didn't make any newspapers. Then back to tranquility. Berlin is like cricket in that respect. (what?)

The Talmud is obscenely racist, unbelievable for a 'religious' text. The Judaics were obsessed by sex and bodily functions and wrote about it freely. Here is a clip ...

He saved over a thousand Jews. Why would he do this? He could have exploited their labor and made off with the millions,however he used it all to save the lives of 'his jews'. And not just once,there were times when he went out of his way to save a life,he could have let them die,but he made it his mission to save them.

Oh, we agree: but a lot of us are very uncomortable with making spreading ****** a criminal offense unless something more material is involved; ie, fraud,perjury, etc. Just shooting the guy's opinion down and ridiculing him is a better way.
Come to think of it, the Nazis felt they had a right to put people in jail for spreading what the Nazis consider ******. I have a real problem with giving the State that much power.

I don't think its a good thing, but for this guy i am not going to waste the energy of writing my MP.

It's like if i saw someone robbing sylvia browne at gunpoint, i don't agree with robbing someone at gunpoint, but i choose to use my energy on people that are worthwhile.
