What Happens After I Die?

Every living thing that did not die with you continues to live, and whatever else that did not cease to exist with your death continues to exist. Your mind-processes cease to run. Your body de-animates and its decay accelerates.

And then it rains.

Oh rain? That's just ruins the whole day :(

When you die, the concept of you becoming the same as everything else, and thus nothing, begins infinitely.

Is this statement true? And if not, why isn't it?

Any replies would be appreciated ..

Has this been posted before? I was emailed it today by a work colleague:

"I found this great website that clearly explains what happens after you die. It's complete in its understanding of the afterlife, yet put in terms so simple that even children can easily understand it. Enjoy."

Here's one version:

" Don't you ever laugh as the hearse goes by,
For you may be the next to die.
They wrap you up in a big white sheet
From your head down to your feet.
They put you in a big black box
And cover you up with dirt and rocks.
All goes well for about a week,
Then your coffin begins to leak.
The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out,
The worms play pinochle on your snout.
They eat your eyes, they eat your nose,
They eat the jelly between your toes.
A big green worm with rolling eyes
Crawls in your stomach and out your eyes.
Your stomach turns a slimy green,
And pus pours out like whipping cream.
You spread it on a slice of bread,
And that's what you eat when you are dead."

Seriously though, If you think we go through all this Joy & Pain with everything else in between and just cease to exist, that's pretty boring isn't it? Not much reason to why you were born, to death, to the air we breathe, to the reason why there is so much space out there, everything..

Kinda like 'Dam if i only get xx/x amount of years then nothing why bother, in the end nothing really matters'.

Why do you feel the universe owes you an eternity, let alone an exciting one?

Not much reason to why you were born, to death, to the air we breathe, to the reason why there is so much space out there, everything..
If by "reason" you mean some "higher" purpose than what we ourselves make, no.

Kinda like 'Dam if i only get xx/x amount of years then nothing why bother, in the end nothing really matters'.
It matters to you, and the people around you. Why do you feel your existence must be eternal to have any signifigance?

Kind of a sad world-view you've got there, if you have to pretend to a whole passel of cosmic signifigance to feel yourself to be of any value.

This is where the non-believer will tell you that they "do not need to believe in sky fairies and the afterlife to enjoy life and find meaning in it."

I think you are assuming that everyone must feel like you, and have to find a justification for being alive in order to go through the pain and find meaning in the pleasure everyday. This is definitely a philosophical quandry I think many people go through ... but I can tell you that at one point, I thought exactly this same way. So the belief in an afterlife and god "having a purpose" for me became a reality which I lived by and used.

But eventually, I saw I was hiding behind those things as an excuse to not experience the reality that was here and just take it at face value. Life is pleasure and pain and lots of other stuff. Finding meaning in it is rewarding and wonderful. But HAVING to have a meaning behind it can drive one to living on crutches when you can probably walk just fine without them. You can accept responsibility for the pain you cause and forgive others for the pain they inflict on you without having to justify them or yourself. It's just life. God doesn't have to arbritrate everything. Also, you can enjoy pleasure and love others and even sacrifice yourself for others and causes without feeling guilty or afraid and having to reasons to feel those things or not feel them. Regardless of what you believe, you will die one day as will all of us. That will be the culmination of the point. What happens after that doesn't have to determine how you live now.

And here is a thought ... if there is a god, would he eventually want you to make your own reality or always be enslaved or looking to a version of his or someone elses?

This site is racist.
Evidence, Please?

If you're referring to the earlier "Not even black" comment, the poster was referring to what the dead person senses. "Not even black" means that the dead person perceives nothing -- not even the "blackness" of nothing.

Well said.

What kind of reason were you looking for?

Kinda like 'Dam if i only get xx/x amount of years then nothing why bother, in the end nothing really matters'.

Why would it matter any more if the years never ended?

Why would thinking you have eternity make this moment any more meaningful?

Moping around and kicking rocks griping about how short life is is no way to live a life.

If life had meaning, then there would be a book somewhere describing what that meaning is.

... oh ... yeah ... right ...

So, shall we all go out and smite some Canaanites and steal their land? Who's with me? Who'll bring the beer?

:newlol

It doesn't matter if it's boring or not. It's reality. We are here, we exist, no other reason is required. Why would there be? Space exists ---whether we acknowledge it or not doesn't matter. Nothing will change the fact that it does. We "bother" because it is human nature to do so, no other justification is needed. Like what?

What is your point?

Reality isn't always nice enough to conform to your hopes and dreams.

There's a chorus, every four lines, "oh ho ho ho,where will we be in a hundred years from now''

What happens after we die, the same thing that happened for the 13.7 billions years before that. No paying of taxes before we are alive and none after we die.

Paul

You remain dead.

Unless you were bitten by a zombie. Then you would reanimate and mysteriously seek out living humans upon which to feast!

(Sorry, couldn't help myself. Just finished reading "The Zombie Survival Guide" - what a hoot)
