Wow. I knew that the backstabbing in the world of academica could get really dirty but this.......

Should've hired Spenser to prove her denial of tenure was racially motivated.

Whoa, UAH is about 10 miles right down the road from me...:eye-poppi

Last week we had a 14-year old shot and killed in school by another 14 y.o. in a Middle School about 3 miles from where I live, and now this....

Wow.

Have the creationists started saying "see? This is what studying evolution leads to!" yet, or are they waiting for the bodies to cool?

Campus violence? You ain't seen nothing until they rend the very fabric of reality.

Wow.

She really should have driven about 50 miles down the road and had a big plartter of ribs at Dreamland in Tuscaloosa and then sopped up the sauce with white bread. She wouldn't have had energy or mad enough left to go off shooting her betters then.

Apparently this professor shot her brother to death in 1986, but it was ruled an accident.

Given what just happened, I wonder how "accidental" that long ago killing really was, despite the official ruling. I also wonder if there were any signs of domestic abuse in her marriage (with her being the abuser), since shooting the faculty at your university for denying you tenure kinda indicates someone with pretty severe issues with anger management and violent outbursts.

UAH was where I went to school and obtained my degree. I only ever took one bio class, though (history major), so I don't recognize any of the names of the perpetrator or victims.

This is horrible for the families of those faculty members, and their students.

Students' assessments of Bishop varied. Some recalled an attentive, friendly teacher, while others said she was an odd woman who couldn't simplify difficult subjects for students. Sammie Lee Davis, the husband of a tenured researcher who was killed, said his wife had described Bishop as "not being able to deal with reality" and "not as good as she thought she was."

"She's well-known on campus, but I wouldn't say she's a good teacher. I've heard a lot of complaints," Bennett said. "She's a genius, but she really just can't explain things."

"When it came down to tests, and people asked her what was the best way to study, she'd just tell you, 'Read the book.' When the test came, there were just ridiculous questions. No one even knew what she was asking," Tucker said.

Working in an academic environment, I know quite a few people like this.

Exactly the sort of thing one might want to deny someone tenure over ...

Hell hath no fury as a nut-case woman denied tenure!
In my experience, of course.
