Professor denied tenure - kills three

It sounds like there are a lot of questions surrounding the death of her brother in 1986. Strange.

She really should have driven about 50 miles down the road and had a big plartter of ribs at Dreamland in Tuscaloosa and then sopped up the sauce with white bread. She wouldn't have had energy or mad enough left to go off shooting her betters then.

Actually, I like Archibald's better. I like the more vinegar/mustard type sauce. Oh, and it's more like 150 miles from Tuscaloosa to Huntsville. :)

Have the creationists started saying "see? This is what studying evolution leads to!" yet, or are they waiting for the bodies to cool?

I was wondering about that. The shooting happened on Darwin Day. I haven't seen any mention of it, but I wondered if the shooter was denied tenure for being a creationist. From what I've read, she was just a peculiar person.

I can't wait for the fundie creationists to jump on that one

ETA: Well, at least some creos are running with the "this is what happens when you teach Darwinism/atheism" nonsense. Case in point...

See the first comment:
This is just another example of the disturbing affects that teaching Darwinian Evolution and atheism has on people at College Campuses. It goes to show you that possessing a higher degree can never take the sin and evil out of the human soul. Eventually people come back to their senses and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord, who alone can.

And this goofball is just up the road in Zion, IL from me. Wonderful

Apparently this professor shot her brother to death in 1986, but it was ruled an accident.

Holy crap! I just read the CNN story about that shooting, and it sounds like a complete snafu. The woman murdered her brother (they were arguing when she shot him, she fired 2 other times and she fled the scene) and was released with the story that it was an accidental shooting (a story that's incompatible with what happened).

Among other curiosities in the incident, then D.A. but now Massachusetts congressman Bill Delahunt was supposed to conduct an inquiry into the incident, but never did.

ETA: It sounds like yesterday's shooting was preventable. If I were one of the family members of the three people killed or one of those injured, I'd definitely want to find out more about what happened in '86, and why this violent person wasn't locked up.

You mean it's not legal to kill the committee members if they deny you tenure??? Damn, there goes most academics' "Plan B".

From th CNN link:

"Police arrested Anderson after she pointed a weapon at a vehicle near the house in an attempt to get the driver to stop, but it drove on, Frazier said."

Attempted carjacking?

Speaking of profiling, I notice the professor has a hair style I've long come to associate with women who are bat-guano crazy.

Bangs and a bob, run the other way.

There's more:

The professor who is accused of killing three colleagues at the University of Alabama on Friday was a suspect in the attempted mail bombing of a Harvard Medical School professor in 1993, a law enforcement official said today.

Bishop surfaced as a suspect because she was allegedly concerned that she was going to receive a negative evaluation from Rosenberg on her doctorate work, the official said. The official said investigators believed she had a motive to target Rosenberg and were concerned that she had a history of violence, given that she had shot her brother to death in 1986.

During a search of Bishop's computer, authorities found a draft of a novel that Bishop was writing about a female scientist who had killed her brother and was hoping to make amends by becoming a great scientist, according to a person who was briefed on the investigation and spoke to the Globe on the condition of anonymity.

There's more:

Wow! You're not kidding!

I can at least understand why law enforcement couldn't charge her in this attempted murder (the mailed pipe bomb). But she really shouldn't have been released after killing her brother.

Again, if I were a victim or relative of a victim in the Alabama shooting, I'd be upset that a more thorough investigation of the '86 shooting never happened.

Curious as to whether the victims (or their families) get only worker's comp or can sue the school?

Wow. Amazing story. Just...wow.

That she's a Harvard educated scientist...wow. Just wow. That she's someone that brilliant...wow.

She makes the cretin who "teaches" me look sane, stable and sensible by comparison.

Drat, it's Birmingham I was thinking of!! Mea Culpa!!!!!!!

Where is Archibald"s? I ask because mustard tends to be South Carolina and Vinegar North Carolina (central and west) with mustard still holding Eastern N>C>.

The original location is in a tiny building in Northport. There was another larger restaurant called Archibald and Woodrow's but they just lost their business license. The sauce is vinegar based and different from most that you find in Alabama.
Back to the thread topic: Shoots brother in 1986, investigated in mail bomb plot against professor in 1993, kills three fellow professors in 2010. Another one of those "Well, in hindsight......" cases, I guess.

Have the creationists started saying "see? This is what studying evolution leads to!" yet, or are they waiting for the bodies to cool?

No, but according to Rate My Professor being a socialist and being homicidally insane are not mutually exclusive. Indeed they're positive co-variables, if Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, the Kim's, Saddam, Castro, Chavez, Che are any guide.

This little socialist number Dr. Bishop just paints with a smaller brush.

And that wasn't her only significant encounter in her past, either. They were talking about her on the radio this AM, and she has serious issues, to put it mildly.
