Why are conservatives so condecending and elitist?

Civil Rights for African-Americans.

Abortion rights for women.

saving the American economy from a 2nd Great Depression.

reversing the US debt clock.

reforming welfare.

putting a man on the Moon. 2 of em'.

reforming America's immigration policies, to allow in folks who weren't just British, Irish, German, and Scandinavian.

Led America through WW2.

..any more folks?

Civil Rights for African-Americans. Republicans conducted an entire war to free African Americans. That's a conservative and Republican accomplishment, with Democrats kicking and screaming the whole way. Republican states were always much freer for blacks than Democrat states. Republicans heavily supported the Civil Rights movement, while nearly ALL southern and many northern Democrats opposed it. Unions, a liberal invention, were adamantly against black rights, especially black labor rights.

Abortion rights for women. Did you check with the aborted women on this one? Or just the ones who aborted? 'Nuff said.

saving the American economy from a 2nd Great Depression. :eye-poppiOh. My. God. Tell me you didn't list this! This is even worse than during the Carter years and will likely get worse yet. This IS the second depression.:eye-poppi

reversing the US debt clock. :jaw-droppSo you live on Planet No-Clue, now? The debt hasn't increased dramatically and more than ever before both absolutely and in trajectory? Are you in 3rd grade or been living on a desert island for the last year?:jaw-dropp

reforming welfare. Newt Gingrich and the House of Representatives post-1994, which enacted the Welfare Reform Legislation rammed down Bill Clinton's (not Monica's, now, but Bill's) throat... were all conservative Republicans. And, by the way... just how did the Welfare that needed to be reformed get there in the first place? LBJ and the Democrats in Congress.

putting a man on the Moon. 2 of em'. Remind me... who was President on the date Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, and what was his Political Party affiliation? What year did the Space program take off after years of obstruction by Congress controlled by which party, and who was President when the change in policy occured? Does 1957 mean anything to you?

:D

That was also in 1860's. I would be /very/ hesistant to say that trumps the 1960's championship of the Dems pushing it at the risk of their own consistancy in the south. (Also, party positions change over time)

Er.... yeah, skipping this over.

Except Kennedy and Johnson were the ones who boosted the NASA budgets.

Do the mods hand out broad brushes to everyone who enters the politics forum? Can we please grow out of this? It's embarrassing.

Don't know much history, do you, like how Political parties can change over time.
The Liberal Wing of hte Democratic party pushed through the Civil Rights Bill of the 1960's. Your whole GOP GOOD,DEMS BAD, is stupid and immature. Of course the DEMS GOOD,GOP BAD people arejust as bad.

who's dream was it to put a man on the Moon, and have him safely return to earth?

That makes it a liberal accomplishment?

Hell, JFK was more conservative than most Democrats these days. At least from what I've seen of his speeches and ideas.

Those comments are not elitist, they're racist.

That can't be right, because another member here (Faithkills) was at the TP convention, and he stated quite clearly that:

There's no racists that I have seen. We don't allow them. You can be pro-choice or pro gay marriage, but there's one thing you most certainly can't be and that's racist. Racists are not welcome.

So, obviously, Tancredo couldn't have said such things at TPCon, because Faithkills was there and said under no uncertain terms are racists welcome.

;)

ETA: and both the cons and the libs hurling "elitist" and "condescending" insults back and forth are both right and wrong. Both sides do it, because both sides get haughty about thinking their ideology is superior without any doubt or caveat. However, this isn't a general attribute of either ideology, and this behavior tends to crop up in the extremes on both sides rather than the more moderate general population.

Probably everyone who worked at NASA in the 1960's. And they almost certainly weren't all Democrats. And my mom. And she's a bible-thumping Republican.

Speaking of the Moon, you could cover it in one stroke with that brush you're using.

I don't know what's sillier... the suggestion that the republicans should get credit for the moon landings because Nixon was in the big chair when the Eagle touched down... or the suggestion that the JFK democrats have something to do with the post-McGovern democrats?

"We should rebuild our military strength. Not because we want to declare war, but because we want to declare peace."

- John F. Kennedy

Actually, JFK is one of the main reasons the post-McGovern Democrats were what they were. LBJ is another.

*snicker* I'm sorry, but that's just pure gold.

Sadly, this attitude -- "I don't see why you think liberals like me are condescending, I'm just telling you how great we really are compared to those conservative idiots" -- is an attitude I've encountered more than a few times, without a trace of irony.

Speaking of irony...

With all due respect, Skeptic, you are one of the most partisan people in here. I put you right up there with lefty.

Incredible, it's like a dictionary definition of what psychologists call "projection."
