Haitian earthquake was used as an excuse for US invasion

I have read up on the event. The evidence, hell Nixon's own tapes, indicates the CIA had no role in the coup. All evidence that has been provided has just been people saying this or that but with no evidence to back any of it up. Multiple investigatory commissions looked into the matter and found no link.

But if you think you've got the goods, that everyone else overlooked, by all means present it.

Before I reply with a broadside where did you look up this 'non CIA participation' for a matter of interest, I mean could you supply a link? Bear in mind I may be talking about evidence about US maniplulation by a variety of means not just the CIA but the instructions came from the top.

Your answer to everything is that the news media is biased and we should read instead your favorite socialist websites. That's basically all you've done in this thread, hand-wave away all our rational explanations and post links that have all one thing in common.

And the "it happened once before on the other side of the planet, here's a socialist commentator to prove it" is not a good argument.

Not very convincing Perseus.

First of all the evidence speaks for itself, only until the last few days has the aid started to get through to the majority of people, what is that 3 weeks? I have quoted evidence of airdrops when they said none was possible, surely a change of policy?

Are Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) and the BBC socialist organisations? It is very difficult to find the truth when everyone in political authority is trying so hard NOT to offend America! Note how the French minister was isolated!

Try a US general then!

WASHINGTON — The U.S. relief effort after the Haiti earthquake started too slowly and cautiously, says a retired general who led the military relief effort on the Gulf Coast after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
"The next morning after the earthquake, as a military man of 37 years service, I assumed … there would be airplanes delivering aid, not troops, but aid," said retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who coordinated military operations after disaster struck the U.S. Gulf Coast in 2005. "What we saw instead was discussion about, 'Well we've got to send an assessment team in to see what the needs are.' And anytime I hear that, my head turns red."

If the US were truly invading it would be stupid not to try to win the hearts and minds of the indigenous population. The military learned way back in Vietnam how powerful it can be to move into poor areas of a country and provide food and medical care. That was the primary mission of the Green Berets.

IF the US wanted to take control of Haiti, they wouldn't miss this chance to demonstrate that it can provide for its people what its own government cannot.

They're evil, they're not stupid. ;)

A swing and a miss.

While I agree that immigrant labourers often have to work in appalling conditions, tugging at our collective heart-strings isn't adding anything to the OP that America is using the earthquake tragedy to invade Haiti. Not trying to obfuscate again are you?

Are you unfamiliar with social commentary?

US economic dependence on cheap labor (often foreign) is directly related to the US relationship with Haiti.

He didn't say anything about an invasion. You keep changing your discourse, did you notice that?

The aid and the security is not the sole responsibility of the US, it's international, Canada and MINUSTAH.

You keep ignoring that.

How so? Is there a shortage of cheap labor in the US? Last time I checked, our unemployment was close to 10%. So are you saying we invaded Haiti for their cheap labor? Wouldn't be alot easier to just open the border to Mexico, if all we wanted was cheap labor?

What fun would that be? You have to think like a conspiracy theorist, the more ridiculously complex and fiendish the plot is, the better.

Probably more and partly because a lot of US production has been outsourced to places where labor is cheaper, like Haiti.

It is true that there are now less opportunities for migrant workers in the US.

So are you saying we invaded Haiti for their cheap labor?

No, though that is one of Haiti's attractions.

Haiti was already under corporate occupation before the earthquake.

Perhaps not where your government wants you to look, but try looking beyond the corporate controlled media
If you want a US site try this one: democracynow.org/

Democracy now is as credible as Prison Planet, right down to the "corporate controlled media" canard.

First of all let me apologise for disillusioning all you patriots. Unfortunately we all have a responsibility to look beyond the hype and spin the corporate sponsored media wish us to see!

The Haitian situation has to be viewed in the context of US policy and influence in Latin America for the last century. It has retained an almost obsessive interest in ensuring these countries embrace globalisation with the US hegemony which accompanies this. I can count 21 covert US actions since the start of the cold war! :eye-poppi You have to give it to Bush he doesn't bother with this covert nonsense, he commits the atrocities out in the open!

Regime change has been attempted through direct involvement of US operatives, the funding and training of insurgency groups within these countries, anti-regime propaganda campaigns, coup d'états, and other, often illegal, activities usually conducted as operations by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The US has also accomplished regime change by direct military action (see List of United States military history events) instead of by covert means.

Chile 1973
Main articles: 1973 Chilean coup d'état and United States intervention in Chile
The CIA participated in the overthrow of the democratically-elected government of Chile.[43][44][45][46][47]

Now just in case you still have any doubt just read these notorious quotes.

Quotations
"I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its own people. The issues are much too important for the Chilean voters to be left to decide for themselves." — Henry Kissinger :jaw-dropp

"Not a nut or bolt shall reach Chile under Allende. Once Allende comes to power we shall do all within our power to condemn Chile and all Chileans to utmost deprivation and poverty." — Edward M. Korry, U.S. Ambassador to Chile, upon hearing of Allende's election.

"Make the economy scream [in Chile to] prevent Allende from coming to power or to unseat him" — Richard Nixon, orders to CIA director Richard Helms on September 15, 1970

"It is firm and continuing policy that Allende be overthrown by a coup. It would be much preferable to have this transpire prior to October 24 [1970] but efforts in this regard will continue vigorously beyond this date. We are to continue to generate maximum pressure toward this end, utilizing every appropriate resource. It is imperative that these actions be implemented clandestinely and securely so that the USG and American hand be well hidden..." — A communique to the CIA base in Chile, issued on October 16, 1970

"We didn't do it. I mean we helped them. [Garbled] created the conditions as great as possible. — Henry Kissinger conversing with President Nixon about the coup. Telephone call from Kissinger to Nixon

Now is this the same nation which goes on about freedom and democracy, who are they kidding? most of you by the sound of it!

You still have no evidence that this is going on in Haïti. Whatever happened in Chile is irrelevant, it doesn't prove anything about Haïti.

And your "corporate sponsored media" shtick is getting old.

The Haitian situation has to be viewed in the context of US policy and influence in Latin America for the last century.

In other words, you can't back up your claims about Haïti, so your only resort is to change the subject.

Pathetic.

First perseus and JJ say the evil American corporations already controlled Haiti before the earthquake. Then they say the evil American corporations are using the earthquake as an excuse to take control of Haiti.

And they use the '73 coup in Chile to prove it. :boggled:

Go figure.

I think Perseus should understand that Pinochet was Apolitcal according to Allende himself, and only acted after the Chamber of deputies published a damning resolution regarding the state of the Rule of Law in Chile.

The CIA IG performed a full investigation and concluded that the CIA had no role in Allende's deposition.

Check out the Mitrokhin archive Volume II as well for damning evidence about Allende and information on KGB Active Measures at that time.

This does not prove that the earthquake was a 'pretext' for invasion. What evidence is there that the US could predict earthquakes?
