Then how come much of history, even modern history, is deduced from artifacts and fossils that are not examples of "writing"?

Egyptologists have worked out much of the history of ancient Egypt from forensic science, not just mere interpretation of hieroglyphs.

World War II left many of its more poignant historic marks in forms outside of what was actually written or otherwise recorded during its course.

Or the table of contents and the bibliography. Or page numbers. Maybe some correlation between the proposed chapters enumerated in the introduction and the actual chapters included in the "dissertation."

To be fair, I'm in the Humanities, so my dissertation didn't include a section explicitly describing methodology. It did include original work, though. And a table of contents and a bibliography and page numbers and footnotes and occasional variation of sentence structure. All those namby-pamby fancy-pants extras insisted upon by the Libero-Fascist Secular Atheist Elite (e.g., real universities).

Because that is archeology not history. The difference between history and prehistory is writing. That is why in north america in 1200 CE it was still prehistory.

She could have, too. Reproducing excerpts for purposes of review is a well-established fair use. Academics are always far more skittish about quoting folks than the copyright law requires.
Go ahead and quote; it's fine.

I will be quick to point out that "there is nothing new under the sun." ....I have attempted in this book to simply explain the things I have learned through many years of studying both science and the bible....Some things in this book I can't prove to anyone....Only God knows....Everything else...is just our theory.

I just finished reading it. I have included some highlights below from the document. Please note the document is an image so the quotes I'm using I had to type. In the interest of fairness to Mr. Hovind please assume any typos are my fault (although there is one quote where I address his grammar mistakes, see below).

I don't want to sound like a crackpot, but actually we don't know that the stars are billions of years away.

If the earth is millions of years old, why don't we have a fifty thousand year old Bristle Cone Pine tree someplace or a half a million year old?

I would like to ask the evolutionists if he has some kind of answer to the fact that if the earth is indeed million of years old, why is the oil still under such incredible pressure. {note from LLH: I typed this sentence very carefully to preserve the grammar mistakes}
