reading is fundamental. there is already a very long thread about this.

but i'll make it simple for ya. there will be no silly 9-11 investigation on the ballot.

Voted yesterday in NYC, it was not on the ballott....just like last year, just like next year.

NYCCAN was one of the biggest failures in the history of a movement that is nothing but fail.
What is gobsmacking is that the people behind the petition were told fairly early on that it would never reach the ballot because the intiative proposed things that were clearly illegal and it would be thrown out for that reason, but the fools continued anyway.

Is it a surprise? They have been told their CD nonsense is totally implausible yet here they are.

Excellent point, but when you pay an attorney for his advice and then you ignore it....that takes a special kind of stupid.

My father was a lawyer, and he says that was his favourite kind of client; he felt he could make more money clearing up the mess afterwards. It was the ones who acted on his advice that he lost sleep over.

Interesting. Some stories about lawyers are apperently rooted in fact.

I suspect that the real motive all along, from the very beginning, was to fleece the gullible and so get free lunch for as long as possible. Will NYCCAN ever open it's books to show where the money went? Not in this universe lifetime!

What evidence is your suspicion based on? Are you suggesting they committed fraud?

They still have a donate button on the NYCCAN web site. What is the money for, now?

People can't collect money in public without reporting it to *someone*. I've tried, others have tried and we can't find any reporting.

I know a City Council political campaign effort first-hand and know what they went though to be legal for the financing. I can see their complete income and expenses reported on a public city website. I see no reason why NYCCAN should be any different.

Which law did they break, exactly?

The money has to be reported *somewhere* and based on my experience with campaign races, quarterly.

If it isn't reported, it's illegal personal income to the IRS.

I wonder if their accountant's name is "Person"...

They could dismiss all my criticism, and that of others, with an audit, couldn't they? Something to show the contributors where the money went as determined by legally-qualified accountants.

"What evidence is your suspicion based on?"

Probably their legal counsel informing them before the campaign began that it would fail. It would fail big time. It would in fact - (etc. etc.)

"Are you suggesting they committed fraud?"

I'm not suggesting, I'm stating. NYCCAN has been nothing more than a begging-bowl for it's leaders, enabling them to obtain a free lunch for the past two years. If you doubt me, check back on what they were told at the very beginning of their campaign. This thread contains numerous illustrations of how they did not keep members informed of what had happened, until their hand was forced by posts on this Forum.

Who advised them at the beginning of their campaign? Please provide a name and approximate date.

As for keeping "members" informed - everything you're referring to was a matter of public record. Please tell me exactly which laws were broken, because what you're describing does not sound like a legal obligation.

First, LashL reported that the thing had been tossed, and had the documents to prove it. This was (IIRC) the same day, or the next day. It wasn't untill the day AFTER that, did any info show up on their site, and ONLY after someone pointed out that LASHL had posted the info. Why WOULD they withhold that info?? If LASHL, who is in CANADA, can find this information, scan it, and upload it to her website, than why couldn't the people that were actually INVOLVED with it, post it just as fast, if not FASTER?!?!?!?! BTW, the link that they posted on NYCCAN'Ts website was LASHL's website. Hummm....
