And isn't it amazing the amount of spin and twisting that was necessary to explain away these comments? Because after all, everyone else seems to know that a great many good things occurred in this country in the more than 25 years Michelle had been an "adult" at the time she said that.
That's quite a sweeping statement. You are also assuming that she is using the legal definition of adult. She may have refering to when she left school and started working or when she took on the responsibility of being a parent.

And it's not like she personally suffered during those 25 years. Her background was exceedingly privileged. Her education was top notch. And she was earning $212,000 a year as lawyer ... prior to making those statements. In large part because of the many good things that had happened in America during those 25 years ... in which she felt no pride. Guess all was doom and gloom in her eyes ... until Obama brought us *change*.
So you are aware of every experience a African-American Woman could have had over the past 25 years? What qualifies you to make that judgement of her or any other person?

You are also confusing pride with love.

Well ... she is a Princeton educated lawyer. :D
Who wasn't testifying in a court of law on a legal matter.

I haven't used the word love once. Do you think she meant she didn't love America from the time she became an adult to when Obama ran for President? :D
Never the less you are confusing the two emotions with one another. It is possible to feel love for a nation without feeling pride and vice versa.

If you wish to continue I suggest you start a new topic in the politics forum and not de-rail this one.

Who, as everyone knows, are physically incapable of making any mistakes whatsoever. Especially verbal mistakes. Indeed, every single word a Princeton educated lawyer utters is nothing but the inalterable truth.

Which really makes Barack look stupid for not including his wife in the Grand Obama-Parent Marriage Conspiracy, doesn't it? Tsk, when will they ever learn?

Some people have a real issue with one thing only; "The Sheriff is a {{{DING}}}"

(Apologies to Mel Brooks.)

That is as far as you need to go to understand that they will therefore do everything in their power to lynch him.

Remember back when this thread was about the Orly Taitz lawsuit and other birther craziness? Those were awesome times.

Need I point out that 5 days had elapsed without a single post on this thread before I decided to "stir the pot"?

How can I derail a topic that was already dead?

You should just be glad I gave you a reason to bump this important thread. ;)

How can I be confusing two emotions when I haven't mentioned one of the emotions at all?
It's because you haven't mentioned one that IMO you've confused the two.

Feeling pride isn't just having pleasure and satisfaction towards an entity, as you described:

And it's not like she personally suffered during those 25 years. Her background was exceedingly privileged. Her education was top notch. And she was earning $212,000 a year as lawyer ... prior to making those statements. In large part because of the many good things that had happened in America during those 25 years ... in which she felt no pride.

It also involves knowing that the actions that lead to this feeling are highly honorable or a credit to oneself.

Again, if you wish to continue on this topic, please start a new thread in politics and cease derailing this topic.

Oh come on, you're just trying to nitpick. Every reasonable person in the country felt empathy with her because she misspoke, and everyone knew what she meant to say was something like "for the first time in my adult life it feels like hope is finally making a comeback, and that makes me proud of my country."

You should live for a while with everything you say being monitored for precisely-placed phrases. Cut her some slack fer chrissakes.

Yes...being the daughter of a postal service worker in a racially polarized 1960s Chicago is the foundation of most "extremely" priviledged lives ... If I'm not mistaken, at least one parent working as a minor civil servent is a pre-requisite to success in our society -- clearly hardwork, talent, determination, intelligence, drive and a little racial bitterness had little to do with her achievements. I'm certian that when she got to Princeton amid all of the other working-class children of black postal employees and other minor civil servants, she must have, for the first time in her life probably, felt like she had found a home.

If only she had known the deprivation of life like being the Grandson of a U.S. Senator, like, say, George Bush. Than she could have used the the hard-scrabble battle of life and the legacy admissions to vocational institutions like Andover and Yale to some advantage...at least than her skepticism about the American dream being available to all of America's citizens would be more understandable....

 So I've confused pride with anything I haven't mentioned? :D

I'll ask again. How can I derail a thread in which there hadn't been a post for 5 days?

And if you want me to stop talking about "love", I suggest you stop talking about it. Because I'm only responding to your continued references to it. :D

Yes. You are using the definition of one for the other.

I would be like asking if you are proud of an experience you had with a prostitute. You may have loved it, especially for the money you paid, but you are most likely not proud of it (in the traditional sense).

Who somehow managed to send not one, but two children to Princeton.

Because only the overprivileged ever have children who go to Ivy League schools. Especially not when said children are so bright they skipped grades in school.

And you still haven't explained this current failspiracy of yours, BAC. I hope it makes more sense than the time you claimed Vince Foster's sister was in on the conspiracy to make his "murder" look like the suicide of a depressed man because she made appointments with doctors for him before he died to discuss his depression and bought off Foster's own wife to go along with the depression cover story...and you know this is a coverup with bribery because Vince Foster's sister and wife both said later that Foster wasn't depressed.

I guess it's just hard to find good reliable conspirators these days.

You can respond in another thread if you wish to continue this discussion that you started with the derail about Michelle Obama, which has nothing to do with the topic of the thread.
