Roman Polanski arrested (discuss)...

There will not be a court case. Polanski has already plead guilty. All that awaits him is sentencing.

It is rather unfortunate that she's being treated like that. I really have no idea why she'd be pursued like that... its not like she would have any significant commentary to add at this point. Perhaps she should look into obtaining a restraining order.

Of course, keep a couple of things in mind:

- She was originally the one who first put herself in the spotlight a few years ago (long before Polanski was arrested by the Swiss) when she first came forward recommending the charges be dropped

- What exactly does that say about Polanski... he must realize that he has no choice; regardless of what he does, he's going back to the U.S. Perhaps if he were a decent human being, he'd realize the problems he's causing his victim, he'd do the honorable thing and stop fighting extradition, so that hopefully the media circus around his victim will end sooner than later.
 
If he was a decent human being he wouldn't have raped her in the first place.

It strikes me that those who would pursue like that are likely people who want to see Polanski exonerated, so they hope to get her to keep saying things like how the charges should be dropped or she doesn't want him to be punished.

You are probably wrong about that.

The media are interested in her because she constitutes a current human interest story. They hope to use her to get ratings, clicks or sell newspapers.
Better ratings make it possible to charge more for advertising.

That is their agenda, and there's no need to read more into it.

I have never seen the equal of that combination of repugnance combined with the air of assumed inappropriate moral superiority.


Outside internet forums, I mean.


I almost started a serious rant over that article, but I just cannot deal with it at the moment.

It is so tone deaf as to be beyond understanding...it suggests that anyone who is revolted by the crime and thus by Polanski and his evasion of responsiblity is some how deficient. To his credit, Herni-Levy has in recent years been a defender of the US to Europe, but this piece is nothing short of moral and intellectual retardation.

Ooops, me and my stupid sense of humor gets me in trouble again.

I was making a joke on the fact that the previous poster said that he never saw such insulting self-righteousness and unjustified moral superiority "outside an internet forum" by pretending to be self-rigteous and insulting ON the forum... I thought the link I posted made clear I'm being facetious.

Me bad, I should have remembered that sarcasm and irony don't work on the 'net. No matter how obvious it seems to you you're joking, someone will take you seriously, because someone else did say what you just said in complete earnest.
