Dog consumption

It is not that They can't be used (It is acceptable to consume any kind of animal while starvation exists), but they should not be used so often.

1. They are likely the most recognized and popular Pet ever.

You keep saying that as if it's relevant as to the morality. It ain't.

2. They display emotions that no Cow or Pig can show

Not necessarily true, as some pig owners will tell you. And again, as a rabbit owner, my (now unfortunately deceased) rabbit Chainsaw was very dog-like in temperament; she'd beg for treats and attention, give me bunny kisses, greet me when I woke up (and when I got home), etc.

3. There history with man is over 15000 years old

And again, irrelevant. Sheep have been domesticated almost as long, yet I don't think you have any hangups about eating lamb.

Because, If the USA was shipping them over seas, Then there would even be a bigger problem.

If dog consumption is allowed in other cultures, then Dog fighting should not be illegal here. Again, like you said, cultures vary

You, my friend, are reaching very deep into the bottom of that bucket for a valid point. Culture and mistreatment are two very different animals.

But can you hold a fish in your arms? Can you pet it or greet it? Can it sleep on your lap? No

You can do all those things with a pot-bellied pig though, although if someone tells me they have a pet pig I pretty much hate them immediately. What a stupid, stupid pet.

It would be completely inefficient and way too expensive. Pointless. How much meat do we import, versus raise here? Very little.

That makes no sense whatsoever.

So i guess that the lunch lady should stop serving Cow meat because of one freaking kid who complains? That is what it is like with Many cultures who ban dog consumption, yet do nothing about other countries killing and eating man's best friend

That makes no sense whatsoever.

If we allow for countries like Korea to eat dogs, then it should be no problem to allow Dog fighting here. When we do nothing about stopping dog consumption in Korea, yet ban dog fighting, which is way way less severe, here, it becomes Hypocritical of us

Because Statistics, culture, and Human nature consider dogs Pets and companions, NOT FOOD!

Not in pre-contact Hawai'i.

Natural History of Hawaii said:
Just as the Polynesian people carried useful plants plants with them on their wanderings, they also brought with them in their canoes these two highly prized and useful domestic animals known to them in their ancient home [hogs and dogs]. The hogs varied greatly in color, as they were black, white, brindle, striped, reddish, and spotted, indicating that the species had long been in domestication. The Hawaiian dog was fed largely on poi, and was much relished as food in old-time Hawaii.

People still eat dogs out here even today, although you can only eat a dog you own or that has been raised specifically as food. You cannot eat someone else's dog. That is property theft.

Anyone ever had a pet troll? I used to have one but sadly they were banned a long time ago.

Do you think I am laughing about any of this? I would say you have no soul if you allow one of your dogs to be used as meat.

You have how many cows In Korea?

You don't know? Then don't argue the point.

Yet, Dogs are consumed more frequently than Cows there. Boy, what a waste of cows. They should come home

Selling dog meat is illegal in South Korea (dunno about the DPRK, but given their famine issues, I don't blame them if they do). Although some still eat it, it's fairly rare.

Please at least try to learn what the hell you're talking about before going off about it.

No it doesn't. We allow eating of chickens here but ban cockfighting. There's no moral equivalency whatsoever.

Again, this talk of "allowing" other countries to eat dog meat. (And see my previous post about Korea. Your ignorance is showing again.)

What do you suggest we do? Bomb them for eating dog? Invade?

ETA: And no, dogfighting is not "way way less severe." That's just ridiculous. That's long-term torture, followed by an incredibly cruel death.

Morally, this makes no sense whatsoever. At what point does it become wrong? Also, I thought your argument based on statistics said just the opposite (that if something is done on a widespread basis, it must be correct--why you keep saying stuff like point number 1 below).

1. They are likely the most recognized and popular Pet ever.
Again, do you suggest we determine this matter by vote? The countries where dog eating is culturally acceptable comprise roughly 1/2 the world's population. The countries where dog eating is tolerated and/or legal comprise most of the rest.

2. They display emotions that no Cow or Pig can show
Factually wrong. Pigs, in particular, are very intelligent and expressive animals.

3. There history with man is over 15000 years old

You mean dogs were domesticated around 15,000 BC (which, of course, is more like 17,000 years ago).

So?

Sheep were domesticated around 9-11,000 BC, pigs around 9000 BC, cows around 8000 BC, and so on.

You're still wrong in saying these are "wild animals".

Here you go again with this, how is dog fighting less severe than slaughtering dogs for meat? Do you know the life those dogs have as fighters? If you DO know, and still think that dog fighting is less severe, then you are the souless one, my friend.

Do you think I am laughing about any of this? I would say you have no soul if you allow one of your dogs to be used as meat.

You've just moved the goal posts. No one said anything about allowing one's own pet animal to be eaten by someone else.

I don't believe in supernatural ideas like a soul, but I find your hypocrisy to be glaring.

Also, see again my post about cui and the fact that the distinction between animals kept for food and animals kept as pets not being as stark as you seem to think.

So if a farmer pats a cow on the flank or pets a pig's head, would you find it repugnant to eat those animals? Where do you draw the line? Do you think it's morally better to raise food animals in factory conditions as separated from the people who eat them as possible?

Let me explain something interesting about cultural standards.

See, cultures despite what one might think, are not created equal. A culture where it is acceptable to kill 12 year olds if they don't meet some standard is demonstrably worse than one that isn't. So when the maxim cultural difference is tossed around, it is often to excuse inexcuseable behavior.

Then there's the things that are simply cultural differences. One culture has no problem with women walking around topless. Another considers women showing their navels to be shameless flirts. Which is worse? Well, if we ignore some finer points, neither. There is no cultural disadvantage to women being topless, assuming it's seen as 'normal' versus them covering their belly buttons, assuming that is 'normal.'

On the functional specifics, we all agree that meat eating is okay (we'll ignore the vegan/vegitarian point of view for a moment, but don't worry, I didn't forget you. It's just that that's a different conversation). The question is what animals can you consume. Arab countries tend to have an incredibly visceral reaction to the consumption of pork. Even Arab atheists (yes, I have met them) find eating pork literally disgusting. They have this disgusted look on their face, as they gradual reconcile it rationally - but they don't stop being disgusted.

I'm drawing a parallel here, in case you missed it. What meats are and aren't acceptable to eat are largely cultural issues (except for monkey/cannibalism. Those are close enough that risks of disease transmission go through the ever loving roof. Too, too dangerous to ever be acceptable).

ETA: And no, dogfighting is not "way way less severe." That's just ridiculous. That's long-term torture, followed by an incredibly cruel death.

Yeah, I'm not familiar with any form of meat processing that includes a device called a "rape stand."
