What do you guys think? Free Polanski or off with his head?

Anyone see the Hollywood documentary slant piece on him "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired"? Purportedly the judge and prosecutor were in collusion and reneged on the plea bargain they made with Polanski, therefore he fled.

What are your thoughts?

He did the crime, now he can do the time. Being a talented director does not give you the right to molest children.

Does money mean nothing in the US any more?

From what I read on this, the victim has let it go, and was compensated long ago.

It allowed him to buy his way into France and live high on the hog as a fugitive for over 3 decades.

"Buy his way" being a euphemism for "being a French citizen"????

On the other hand, he admitted doing and was found guilty, so he should do the time..

Yeah I saw that documentary. What a sorry excuse for a judge that was, he completely screwed the trial.

BTW, any reason why Switzerland was the country that decided to arrested him, and not the other European countries he lived in and visited since his warrant?

Does it being neutral have something to do with it?

He also hasn't come to the UK for fear of arrest.

Would France have denied his extradition if he was Roman Polanski the convenience store clerk instead of Roman Polanski the rich and famous film director?

I don't know; you made the claim, now back it up.

I'm glad he's been arrested, i found the whole oscar award for The Pianist (and of course his continued career as a director) pretty distasteful. I don't understand why he was granted immunity from extradition to America, conviction of sex with a 13 year old girl should be taken seriously enough to grant extradition IMHO. Being a bit before my time, does anyone know why France took him in after he fled from custody? Was it just because he is a talented film maker?

That is probably more to do with the way extradition are handled in different country. Until 2002 There was NO extradition treaty ratified with the US (that is If I undertsood the wiki correctly). And if wiki is correct this is a huge fact some people here seem to overlook :).
