Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

If a Christian is required to believe everything in the bible is true, then by that standard, it was an illogical decision. If a Christian is not required to believe everything in the bible is true, then it wasn't.

Do you claim that a Christian is required to believe everything in the bible is true?
A pastor who publishes a book on sermons should believe all the words of Christ so therefore to me you are saying Dr. Martin Luther King was illogical.

He was Dr. King, not Mr. Spock.

So you believe Dr. Martin Luther King was a great deluded man?
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, aren't they DOC?

If one believes Jesus supported sending people to hell who do not accept him as savior, it is obviously wrong and illogical to devote your life to Christianity if your grandparents/parents were non-christians.
Actually this is not good logic. If after looking at all the facts you determine Christianity is the one true religion it is irrelevant what happened to your parents and grandparents.

And Christ said to the apostles those who did not accept the gospel after the apostles preached to them would be damned. The situation might be different with your parents and grandparents. The bible says God is perfect and just. Christians believe a perfect and just God will always give the perfect judgment after death.

We can haz evidents?

This whole silly post is just another version of the bible is true because the bible says that the bible is true . . .

PS I'm still on ignore, aren't I?

Do you have proof that god will judge me when I'm brown bread?

All religious people are sadly deluded. Newton was strongly religious, he was also an alchemist, what a conbination. Yet in science he was a genius.

Then your entire MLK argument was terrible logic (which it was). All I did was to extend your argument.
After all, if christianity is the "one true religion (tm)", then it doesn't matter that Jesus condoned beating slaves (like the bible said).

And Christ said to the apostles those who did not accept the gospel after the apostles preached to them would be damned.
And he also said slaves could be beat. Jesus wasn't really all that nice, was he?

The situation might be different with your parents and grandparents. The bible says God is perfect and just.
and the bible also said slaves could be beat. Hardly a reliable source of morality, that bible.

Christians believe a perfect and just God will always give the perfect judgment after death.
Christians should read the bible then, because it's clear that the god of the bible is hardly perfect, just or good.

I agree it's crummy logic, so why are you employing it for MLK; Obama and other black people?

ETA: Yeah; what Joobz said.

The MLK thing is just another variation on DOC's argument that because there are some verified historical facts in the Bible, everything else in it must also be true. In this case, he's basing his argument on the idea that because MLK was right about some things he must have been right about everything. Unfortunately for DOC one doesn't follow from the other.

But... MLK was not a Bible scholar.

He certainly studied the subject, but not as deeply as other did, being otherwise busy.

It sounds like an argument of authority of sort. Maybe an 'argument by (secular) Sainthood': "How dare you disagree with MLK on any subject? You must be a white-supremacist!"

Because the public opinion about Torquemada (or Adolf Hitler, another very famous Christian) is quite negative. Hence, people will line-up to disagree with him while people are more likely to feel self-concious about disagreeing with Martin Luther King.

Not a chance, no matter how defeated his arguments get, he will just deny it over and over.
It is, as somebody coined earlier: The black night defense.

BRILLIANT!

-The empty tomb is a fact.

-That this Phd. in astrophysics makes a very strong case that prophecy is true (well at least 10 to the 2000th degree true) is a fact.

-thousands of changed lives is a fact.

-that most historians believe Jesus existed is a fact.

-the Bible is the greatest selling book of all time is a fact.

-that some people like Thomas Jefferson say the teachings of Christ are the most moral and sublime the world has known is a fact.

-that there is good historical evidence for the resurrection is a fact:
