Medicine in Egyptian times c 3100 BCE was surprisingly sophisticated. The real "father" of medicine was not Hypocrates, but Imhotep. Vizier, Architect and Doctor to Pharoah Zoser of the Stepped Pyramid fame in Saquara.

True, but we were talking about the period 20-100AD, which puts it squarely in the late Roman period.

Who told you that? Eric Von Daniken? Jeez, that guy has a big mouth. :p

So then you must believe Pastor Martin Luther King was wrong to publish a book on his Christian sermons being his grandparents were slaves? And please answer this question.

What do you mean by wrong? I'll be happy to answer, if you can better explain what you are asking.

Wrong means wrong. If one believes Jesus supported beating slaves as you claim, it is obviously wrong and illogical to devote your life to Christianity by becoming a pastor and then publish a book of your past pastoral sermons if your grandparents were slaves.

So I'll repeat my question, do you believe Pastor Martin Luther King was wrong to publish a book on his Christian sermons being his grandparents were slaves?

Are you saying that a person can only be a Christian if they believe and support everything in the bible as being true?

That would certainly cut down the number of Christians in this world.

Maybe he didn't like his grand-parents?

Most likely, in my opinion, he was in denial about the position of Jesus on the subject of slavery and the role of Christianity in preserving the institution of Slavery and, later, the institution of segregation, focussing on the aspect he could feel more sympathy with, including its role in abolishing slavery and in the civil right movement.
Christianity has been a large and diverse movement in America and was often involved in different and sometime conflicting sides of many issue. The good pastor just choose to focus on the positive ones. Considering his other accomplishments, one can forgive him a little bit of cognitive dissonance...

Damn! I thought this thread was dying. <<goes out to scout for wooden stake suitable for pounding through heart..>>

Hands Elizabeth I the garlic.
Aren't we also supposed to cut the body into pieces? I know a nice crossroads nearby...

One would have to wonder why you would hope a logical discussion of the facts should die?

ETA

And I would think you would be happy that you have learned new facts and information in this thread and would want it to continue for that reason.

When you find a logical discussion of the facts you will let us know, won't you?

That's assuming you can recognise it.

If a Christian is required to believe everything in the bible is true, then by that standard, it was an illogical decision. If a Christian is not required to believe everything in the bible is true, then it wasn't.

Do you claim that a Christian is required to believe everything in the bible is true?

A great man Martin Luther King. But sadly a very deluded man.

Well, using your definition of wrong, then yes, I think MLK was wrong to do so.

Now, using your definition of wrong, the following must also be true:

If one believes Jesus supported sending people to hell who do not accept him as savior, it is obviously wrong and illogical to devote your life to Christianity if your grandparents/parents were non-christians.
