Archeologly proves the Bible?

What is the oldest thing in the bible that we has at least some confirmation that something vaguely like it happened?
.
I believe it's Solomon. Anything earlier is anecdotal, as there was no OT prior to that time, until he organized the first compilation.
And, his situation is over-glamorized, according to some current investigations, which have him controlling little more than the hill he lived on.

Remem(b)er that Jesus was married to Mary Madgelene and, if there is anything to believe in the Gospel of Thomas, the Apostles questioned Jesus love for Mary Madgalene and why they kissed. Of course the Church cooked up the lie about her being a hooker. Roman Catholic Church treats women as inferiors.

Sister Mary Attila would have choked on her rosary were that mentioned or even considered in Catechism in the 4th grade at St. Franny Xavier School in Junction City KA.
The god-boy was celibate, celibate I tell you!
All us mackeral snappers know that!

Nonsense, everybody knows Jesus was into teenage boys:

John 13:25
Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, "Lord, who is it?"

This is an offshoot of a discussion with Kurious Kathy in which she asked me to start a new thread. The topic is archeological evidence that the Bible it true to which she attests. I attest that there is next to no archeological evidence that the Bible is true...

The famous archaeologist Sir William Ramsay would have disagreed:

From the article "Archaeological Evidence":

I believe one of the more overwhelming testimonies regarding the depth of archeological evidence for the New Testament is in the account of the famous historian and archeologist Sir William Ramsay. Ramsay was very skeptical of the accuracy of the New Testament, and he ventured to Asia minor over a century ago to refute its historicity. He especially took interest in Luke's accounts in the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts, which contained numerous geographical and historic references. Dig after dig the evidence without fail supported Luke's accounts. Governors mentioned by Luke that many historians never believe existed were confirmed by the evidence excavated by Ramsay's archeological team. Without a single error, Luke was accurate in naming 32 countries, 54 cities, and 9 islands. Ramsay became so overwhelmed with the evidence he eventually converted to Christianity.

Go to London.
Go to 221B Baker Street.
Ask to see the rent stubs paid by Sherlock Holmes.

So, the best example you could find was from a 19th century scholar? 'cause archeology and our understanding of the middle East has not improved a yota since then?

Interestingly, Luke contradicts other gospels, for example, Matthew, about the date of Jesus' birth.
He also contradicts both Matthew and Mark about Jesus' genealogy...

That being said; the NT in general is much more historical than many passages of the OT, which I believe is what the OP was most interested about.

The entire book of Exodus, for example, as been contradicted by just about every evidence that has been found.
The book of Genesis, well, you know...

The earliest that I'm arware of, which is corroborated by outside data, is the name David associated with the line of kings in Israel. The name is written on the Tel Dan SteleWP found in Syria. It was raised by a Aramaean warrior who boasted of "killing a king of the house of David". It is dated to 900BCE, or approximately Solomon's time.

I beg to differ. I recommend the book "Christ in Egypt" The Jesus-Horus Connection" D.M. Murdock (2009). You will find that all Christianity is based on myths. I also recommend studying the history of the First Council of Nicea. I recommend ex.minister.org. As a bedraggled refugee from the "Holy" Roman Catholic Church, now free to learn the truth, I can attest to the accuracy of all these sources.

The same debunked argument that you have been called on again and again, and here you are, blithely offering it. Your posts are insulting to the notion of discussion.

If Luke was being claimed to be an accurate gazetteer, you might have a point. But Luke's accuracy or non-accuracy on the subject of governors and cities is NOT evidence that Jesus is the Risen Lord. Is it possible for you to not understand that? No. And yet you continue to offer this drivel as if it is persuasive in the slightest.

You can't offer anything better than a 19th century "scholar's" opinion? Please cite recent archeaological research that was done with modern methods and published field studies.

Without a single error, Luke was accurate in naming 32 countries, 54 cities, and 9 islands. Ramsay became so overwhelmed with the evidence he eventually converted to Christianity.

Again naming countries and cities that were well known at the time is not proof. Again, please cite verifiable archeaolgy field work that confirms the events in the Bible.

I would like to make this observation. It is my opinion only. I seem to have a feeling that Israeli Archaeologists have a biased approach to their work. They want to find evidence for the factual nature of their Torah. It is amazing how many artifacts dug up or appearing in private collections have been proved to be forgeries. The Ossurary of James is the best example. I am not saying that Solomon did not exist and that there was not a Temple, but until irrefutable evidence is found by unbiased Archeologists the Temple has to be regarded as only possible

If there was no temple, where did the wailing wall come from?

Of course I don't believe in religion, but I'm still certain that the temple existed at least..

And you cite D.M. Murdoch a lot which is nice but a lot of folks here probably don't like her since she's so prominent in one of the messages of 'Zeitgeist'

And its also true that the Jews were not slaves and the number is overestimated. I prefer the theory that Hebrews were actually a mercenary army hired by Egypt. They eventually lost respect in the community and were downgraded to that of an average citizen. Not liking this, they basically ransacked Egypt and left with a bunch of valuables. Saw it on the history channel and even if its BS it fits in more with human nature.

God's chosen people= thugs.

Have you been to Kings cross station? (it exists) Have you seen platform 9 3/4 (it exists) Have you seen Downing Street? (it exists).

All these places are mentioned in the Harry Potter books, therefore if we keep looking we'll eventually find Hogwarts!

And I've been to Baker Street, so Sherlock Holmes was historical!

Herod the Great..
.

The Western Wall (Hebrew: הכותל המערבי‎, translit.: HaKotel HaMa'aravi) (Arabic: حائط البراق‎, translit.: Ḥā'iṭ Al-Burāq), sometimes referred to as the Wailing Wall or simply the Kotel (lit. Wall; Ashkenazic pronunciation: Kosel), and as al-Buraaq Wall by Muslims,[1] is an important Jewish religious site located in the Old City of Jerusalem. Just over half the wall, including its 17 courses located below street level, dates from the end of the Second Temple period, being constructed around 19 BCE by Herod the Great. The remaining layers were added from the 7th century onwards.

Of course it's there. I should know; I fly in and out of the airstrip on the property in my DH Twin Otter many times ---- On my Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. There is an addon for Hogsmere, near Loch Ness. The graphic detail is excellent. One can drive a car around all the roads, past the quiddich ground, up to the castle. I have landed a float plane on the lake as well.

Seconded.

DOC, do you really have no idea how stupid that claim is?
