I happened to note on Dragon*Con's web site ( http://www.dragoncon.org/index.php ), that James Randi's name appears under the cancellations.

I have not heard any other news as to why. I assume it might be health-related reasons. But, I am sure both his fans and his detractors will miss his presence.

And, we hope that Mr. Randi grows strong enough and healthy enough to return to D*C next year!

(And, at least Leonard Nimoy will be there, to provide some semblance of logic, to the place.)

ETA: I should mention that there will still be a Skeptic's track of activities, anyway, of course! It just won't have Randi, himself, in it.

I didn't realize they had so many skeptic panels and other stuff like that at Dragon*Con. I was gonna go to AWA but this looks more interesting.

That's too bad -- Randi will be missed at Dragon*Con. He certainly seemed to be enjoying himself last year, and said he was very impressed by the whole event. We'll be thinking of him...

By the way, Karen Stollznow, another guest at last year's Skeptrack, has also cancelled, according to the Dragon*Con site.

Yeah, the Skeptrack is like an entire skeptic convention, inside Dragon*Con. Even without Randi, the Skeptrack guest list is excellent. You could spend the entire 4 days doing nothing but skeptic stuff... but then you'd miss all the slave Leia costumes.

That's a bummer about Randi, but if both Phil and Remie are going to be there, that's cool enough for me :)

Btw, there is both a Skeptrack and a ScienceTrack at Dragon*Con - and some of the stuff in the science one is pretty cool. I should know, as I'm delivering a talk on the physics of particle accelerators and why the LHC isn't going to kill us all in the ScienceTrack (I'm also on a panel about creationism in the ScienceTrack). In the Skeptrack I'm on a panel about applying skepticism in the classroom.

**finished tooting own horn :) **

Interesting note: SkepTrack started off as a couple of panels on the Space and Science Track.

Now, we've got three tracks: Space, Science, and SkepTrack. And we're all right next to each other. :D

There is no shortage of nerdy goodness at DragonCon.

Yeah, that's a shame. But my understanding is that there is some personal life stuff that will sap her travel budget. At least we got her at TAM.

Brother, we need to hook up when I'm there.

I heard Randi was canceling because his Slave Leia costume didn't come out right and he threw a fit.

Anyway, Randi didn't get my memo that he's not allowed to slow down, age or get sick. Hope he feels better soon.

I was invited to sit on a panel about parenting skeptical kids - I'll be the only panelist who actually has grown kids - so if I can find a place to stay I'm probably going.
