There is no shortage of nerdy goodness at DragonCon.

There is no shortage of trees in the forrest.

There is no lack of water in the rain.

There is no deficency of heat in a fire.

There is no shortage of woo at the X-Track of Dragon*Con, either.

And, there is no inadequacy of New Yorkers in New York City. At least not yet.

Yes, there could be a shortage of hotel rooms in Atlanta, during Dragon*Con.

But, I am sure some of the hotels within a mile or two will have some rooms left. Even if they haven't cleaned all the stains out of the carpets of those ones, yet.

I was invited to sit on a panel about parenting skeptical kids - I'll be the only panelist who actually has grown kids - so if I can find a place to stay I'm probably going.

That would be a very interesting panel. I'm 30 and while I don't have kids yet I want to one day and I'm very curious about the subject of how to teach critical thinking skills to a child and defending my right to keep my kids away from religious propaganda.

From the time kids begin interacting with other kids, they come across bizarre notions. Teach them at home, and debunk the religious propaganda. Go activist if the religious propaganda is where it shouldn't be, or the woo seems strong. Kids learn the most in the home, and that's where the most learning should take place.

Simple really.

I really recommend Supersense by Bruce Hood for an insight into childhood-induced superstitious and supernatural thinking. It doesn't cover the political side, but certainly might give you some understanding of how and why we think the way we do and what we can do to influence our kids.

I heard Randi was canceling because his Slave Leia costume didn't come out right and he threw a fit.

Anyway, Randi didn't get my memo that he's not allowed to slow down, age or get sick. Hope he feels better soon.

Don't worry. Randi is busy replacing him self with Disney built animatronics. Randi 2.0 will be able to stand up, sit down, talk and escape from handcuffs. But he will not walk anywhere.
