Topic was amongst others abandoning the US-dollar as reserve currency, on of the main pillars of US global power.

They joined NATO from the start and remained member of NATO ever since. What you probably mean to say is that France under de Gaulle withdrew from the high-command in order to remain independent and not subjugated to the US, after a role on equal footing was denied by the US. But they remained committed towards the goals of NATO, namely to keep the Soviets out of Europe.

And France still has troops deployed alongside American's in Afghanistan.

Since France elected a crypto Jewish neocon president Sarkozy, who elected on his turn an extreme-leftwing foreign minister Bernard Couchner (but Jewish himself and that's what counts), France broke with its Gaullist tradition of independence and offered unlimited support to the goals of neoconnish Washington.
