Scientology Exposé from the St Petersburg Times

I don't care much for this kind of tactic. I understand it I just don't agree. I don't give a damn that he is never convinced of anything. I've no illusions. Is he a troll? Perhaps. Not as bad as most though. It's a conversation. Dialog. Even if it is obtuse and disengenous (I'm not saying that it is. I don't know).

But thanks. You are entitled to your opinion and you are entitled to persuade others to plonk someone you think is a waste of time. Like I said, I just disagree.

I have no problem with your reasoning.
I just wanted to put the idea of distraction in reader's minds because it is easy to forget in a long discussion.

Since I must be on Fred's ignore list as he never addresses me directly (sniff) and everyone else here is doing such a good job, I think I'll just lurk in this thread for now.

Oh. And Fred. Show me a Clear.

You and me, both. I am officially a "modette" and an SP. Ah, this is the life! :)

For what it's work I'm listening to the Jason Beghe interview over at operation Clambake. Jason is a prolific actor and former level V Scientologist. It's amazing how the folks that leave Scientologist have such incredibly similar stories with many of the same complaints.

Jason does not at all come off as simply disgruntled as there is too much information. Too much detail.

I suppose that Fred will now say that Jason Beghes the question.

It's interesting that most of these people left Scientology, not because they took a critical look at the absurd claims, but because of mistreatment by the cult leaders. Many of the ex-scientologists still believe L. Ron's sci-fi religious claims.

I don't know if they still believe in LRH's BS, but I'm quite willing to believe that many have gained something of emotional value to themselves from their experience in the "church." In and of itself this is not bad, IMO, but what these folk may have paid for it, financially and, especially psychologically, is probably criminal when looked at through a more rational lens.

Engaging in discussion with fred is a dead end, really. He will happily give the feel-good, public-relations view of Scientology, but he refuses to respond to or even acknowledge any criticism of the Church or its practices.

It's been clear (no pun) to me that FC is a shill for the "church." Maybe it's his "job," even. Or a penance for transgressing some $cientology rule.

He claims Lisa Macpherson was a friend of his, but won't talk about how she died.

Some "friend."

He'll talk about how Scientology leads to "understanding," but won't address the claims of superhuman powers made by Hubbard.

Heck, a close, good friend can lead you to "understanding" in an afternoon of beer and darts.

He'll encourage people to read the Church's PR material, but won't comment on the (now-officially-acknowledged) Xenu mythos.

Yep, he's a shill all right.

Talking to fred about Scientology is like trying to have a conversation with a pamphlet.

Well said, Cleon. In his own way he's another Kurious Kathy -- same mind-rot, different "religion."

I've never felt that way. (I suppose its possible some do.) I do feel like a slave though here in America. But that's to an economic system that I don't have a lot of control over. Gotta feed the kids and all that. I wonder what its like sometimes to live in a country not so seeped in materialism?

I've been to a number of countries that are not so seeped in materialism. Perhaps you should visit some of them. In the most of them you'll probably find that the lack of materialsim comes from the need to worry more about whether or not you'll get enough food today.

To really immerse yourself in non-materialist countries I would suggest you start with Botswana, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Rwanda or Zimbabwe.

Fredcarr complains about living in a country seeped in materialism, while he is part of a church that is all about making profits.

I'm actually really curious about a question that RandFan asked: Why is it that people who leave the church and have criticisms about it are painted as being truly terrible human beings?

I wonder what kind of fun tricks one can pull off on a Scientologist auditor in regards to the e-meter? After all, it's just an ohm-meter.

Nice question, not much I can think of that could not simply be ignored by the operator or explained in some way to achieve the goal of getting the subject to say things they perhaps rather not have heard. If there was a way to just make one start smoking or perhaps simply bend the needle (sorry I’m not that familiar with perhaps the latest versions) that would be a trick. However the voltage (and power) required plus the problem of delivering it on cue while undetected might be insurmountable. A charged capacitor would seem like the best option but could just as well backfire.

They must be, were they not “subversives” they would have never left. Imagine McCarthyism (if you can remember that and substitute subversives for commies) taken to a purportedly ‘galactic’ level.

“Are you now or have you ever been…”?

Because EVERYONE that criticizes Scientology is painted by the CoS as terrible human beings.

There at least two kinds. If you are left alone with one, or have built replicas, you can with effort find the right biofeedback to make it do as you wish.

Does the "auditor" actually care what the meter displays? Anyone every show up for a "free test" to be told that, "Gosh, you are fine. You don't need our help?" :duck:

The e-meter is an ohm-meter which measures GSR(galvanic skin response) and is easy to manipulate. Years ago I attended a demo where they were looking for converts and I made the meter go bonkers , much to the irritation of the auditor. The easiest way is to think sexual thoughts to make it zoom, then use a relaxation technique like yoga or meditation to make it drop.

Edited to add: I don't know what the second type of meter would be.

And Fred, will you acknowledge the authenticity of RS2-45 Auditing?

I will here define failure to respond as an acknowledgement that you know of it, that it is real, and that it has been used.
Don't keep us in suspense. It looks like Fred will ignore any contrary information, so why don't you tell us what RS2-45 auditing is?
