"Obama is a socialist."

Thank you, that was the joke. Welcome to the boards.

I don't quite see the joke, though - People with socialist sympathies haven't been requesting much at all, rather the opposite (at least for the United States), actually. How is joking about that they are asking about this and that at all relevant when the diagram in the first post clearly shows that state controlled assets are in minority?

Thank you, by the way.

Regarding earlier posts about slippery slope, is that not a fallacy?

You know, it's no longer funny when you have to explain it....

And welcome to the boards, Zeyra.

Thanks... And I shall try to not to ask (...that much), just a habit I have. >_>

Are there any republicans on here that would care to actually explain what they mean by "socialist" when they (or their mouthpieces) use the word?

As far as I can tell, increasing the top marginal tax rate back to where it was 10 years ago is supercalisocialisticexpialidocious.

Socialism: I do not think that word means what conservatives think it means.

I'm sure if we give him some time, we will all be like the Prozac-poppers from Denmark in no time.

Just in from the socialist front:

Obama proposes making 'pay-as-you-go' the law

  • Story Highlights
  • PAYGO proposal calls for balancing increased spending with equal savings
  • "Paying for what you spend is basic common sense," Obama says
  • Rep. Cantor says remarks seem "a tad disingenuous," given recent spending
  • Some costs would be exempt, including Medicare payments to doctors

White House Appoints Czar to Oversee Executive Pay

By STEPHEN LABATON
Published: June 10, 2009

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration on Wednesday appointed a compensation czar who will have broad discretion to set the pay for 175 top executives at seven of the nation’s largest companies, which received hundreds of billions of dollars in federal assistance to survive.
... snip ...

Instead of deciding compensation levels himself, the Treasury secretary, Timothy F. Geithner, decided to appoint Mr. Feinberg, a well-known mediator whose last high-profile assignment was putting a financial value on the lives of victims of the 9/11 attack, to decide the pay for the top 25 executives at the American International Group, Citibank, Chrysler, Chrysler Credit, General Motors, GMAC and Bank of America.

For 80 other financial institutions that have received federal assistance, Mr. Feinberg will develop the overall compensation structure, but without setting the exact level of pay. For these 80 companies, the goal is to reduce excessive risk-taking by executives whose compensation is tied to company performance. Mr. Feinberg will also determine whether it would be in the public interest to force any executives at companies receiving assistance who might have been overpaid to return some pay.

Damn, what do they think of Regan?

(Assuming you meant "Reagan")

I was flipping through the channels, and on one multi-pundit show, they were all arguing about this stuff, and all I caught was that the difference was that Reagan LOWERED taxes on the rich to that level, while Obama wants to RAISE taxes on the rich to that level.

Small correction: Obama wants to RAISE taxes on the rich to not even as high as where Reagan LOWERED them.

I love simple graphs. Good post.

I should say though, that Obama is as much a socialist as Dubya was a fascist. Partisan loons like to pull out slippery-slopes and ignorant name-calling. The whole thing is childish which is why I'm a moderate.
