"Obama is a socialist."

"Socialism" has become a catch-all term for meaning "anything we don't like about Obama's governmental and/or economic policies."

Or another way of putting it is this: "socialist" is the new "liberal" on the right.

Oh crap...I'm a socialist libral or possibly a libral socialist...either way I'm screwed twice

I want a Scotch. Does that make me a Presbyterian?

I want Scotch tape, does that make me anti-rivet? The steel industry is in trouble, and they supply a lot to the car makers.

I've just proven that I'm a communist who has brought down the car industry. In Fox logic that is.

Some people need to get their story straight: In yet another fit of sheer political ignorance (surprise!), Rush P.* Limbaugh recently said Obama is both a socialist and a fascist. He recommended people call him both

However bad you think the Republicans have it right now, it's worse.

* Propaganda

There's a whole new generation of voters (and an old generation with a short memory) who have no idea what "Socialism" is or why it's supposed to be an insult.

And there's a stack of countries in Western Europe who've had socialist parties in power at some point since WWII who can't even see why it would be an insult.

In which Upchurch gives us a new definition of optimism. :)
How so? Do you think Obama won't run in 2012?

The next opportunity for a Democratic presidential candidate to be labeled "the most liberal Senator" will be 2016, give or take a really long campaign season.

I fully expect that in 2012 we will hear that Obama was both the most liberal senator in forever and the most liberal president in forever as well as socialist, communist, etc.

...and if that doesn't stick, he'll be accussed of flip-flopping.

Changing your hypothesis based on new information, practical concerns, and changing situations? UNAMERICAN I SAY!

I fear a new label in the offing.... the sociafacist! (It's like Islamofascist, but replace a believe in the heretical Allah with an even more pernicious atheism...)

But here's the joke: The USSR went out of existence almost 20 years ago. There's a whole new generation of voters (and an old generation with a short memory) who have no idea what "Socialism" is or why it's supposed to be an insult.

The GOP is playing in the 2009 Wimbledon with wooden rackets. They've got to get new rhetorical equipment.

I'm sure the next complaint will be that Candidate So-and-So is the most Islamic candidate EVER! They already started it in the last election.

So, they haven't quite upgraded to the graphite rackets, but at least they're using brushed aluminum now. ;)

Socialism: I do not think that word means what conservatives think it means.

Take, for example, this latest Sean Hannity and Sarah Palin infomercial:

eta: On a side note, I do hope she runs in 2012. There are still comedic depths left to mine there in Sarah Palin.
