The 25 fulfilled prophecies of Isaiah chapter 53

2 He was despised and rejected by men,

3 a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.

4 Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

5 Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,

6 yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.

7 But he was pierced for our transgressions,

8 he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

9 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

Looks to me like Isaiah was predicting the lyrics to Handel's Messiah.

OK, that did make me laugh. Thank you.

Otherwise, please make it stop, I need to cut down on the alcohol (although, I am pleased to say, JREF's prayers have been answered and my beer is coming along nicely).

Public Service Announcement
Warning to all. Participation in the DOC drinking game will undoubtedly lead to Alcohol poisoning and potential death. While his words may seem to make sense after the twentieth bottle of beer, the CDC has determined that it is your brain melting from normal to DOC level.

Please drink responsibly.

I must put in the request that we do not include "Off topic or lack of content" complaint posts from DOC when he's referring to a Drinking game post, as that is likely to result in an extremely debilitating and unstable feed forward control loop.

Um...coming into this world as a baby is unattractive? What? how else should he have done it? UPS?

On a completely related note, I'm so happy to see yet another DOC thread starting. I'm going to start a DOC drinking game. Take a drink of the beverage of your choice whenever any of the following are posted by DOC.
1) Thomas Jefferson saying that "Jesus was the most moral man...EVER!!!!!!1111!!!oneeleventy"
2) A reference to DOC's post count
3) A reference to the response count of any of DOC's previous threads.
4) any mention of Lee Strobel
5) Native Americans are better off because of Christians coming to the new world.
6) Christianity getting people off of drugs
7) 98% of Atheists not knowing about the big bang
8) Evolution being "absurd"
9) Any complete dodge of a direct question - this is a sipping offense due to frequency
10) "DOC is a liar post that adds no value"
11) misuse of logical fallacy

I'm sure that other veterans of DOC's threads will be able to add to this list.
Now for the "finish the bottle" offenses
1) DOC admitting that his logic was faulty
2) Him admitting that he may have been misled
3) Answering a direct question directly, without evasion or delay

Now, the final rule is that if you play this, you must post in this thread. If nothing else, it'll make the later posts WAY more entertaining.

Good grief, you want us all to die of alcohol poisoning???

Well let us see, the authors of the early gospels were jews raised in the jewish tradition, so they may have made a deliberate attempt to make it look as though jesus matched the prophecies of isiah.

Ya think?

There's the smoking gun evidence of this: Matthew used Isaiah 7's line about "Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." But Matthew was working with the Septuagint, a faulty translation of the Old Testament into Greek, which took the Hebrew word for "young woman" and rendered in Greek as "virgin."

The author of Matthew says Jesus was born of a virgin because the Septuagint translators blew the translation.

Further, that line in Isaiah wasn't a prophesy for a future time, but something that was about to happen in those Old Testament days, right then.

Speaking of prophecy, didn't Jesus have the wrong name ?
You mean he should have been "Immanuel" according to DOC? Yeppers. But by the time the author of Matthew was doing his embellishment of the Jesus myth, the name Jesus (Yeshua actually) was already set, so the unknown author simply mentions the Immanuel part to tie it to what he thought was a prophesy, then moves on.

Ok, anyone got any arguments for DOC? It seems everybody is to engrossed in the drinking game :)

But I have a proposal, let's keep the rules for any other DOC thread!

Christians believe Christ is part of the Godhead (Trinity). One can say Christ will see those who believe (his children) and prolong them (eternal life).

Anything will fit if you hammer it hard enough.

Wow, that fictional prophecy could be fulfilled by so many fictional characters. Harry Potter fits nearly all 25 of the prophecies and Frodo Baggins fits many as well. Of course when both Harry and Frodo took on evil, they actually defeated it properly. Meaning, the evil was gone.

What did this Jesus guy do? We're still all born with the same original sin we've always had and Satan is still doing everything he can to keep evil alive in the world. How is this guy a better hero than either Harry or Frodo? He's more like a hall monitor than a hero, giving us a free pass through this existence, provided we pass our final exam.

... and give him our lunch money.

Well, I'm down to the last dregs of a bottle of wine and this is only on the second page.

Even if you persuade people that Isaiah accurately predicts Jesus' life rather than the later authors bending their tales to fit Isaiah (I go for the latter) this is no proof that your religion and your god is anything more than make believe. So you have moved your argument forward not one iota.

But Isaiah's prophecies are not the only fulfilled ones in the Bible. The PHd. in astrophysics, Dr. Hugh Ross, claims about 2000 prophecies have been fulfilled. He does this in his article entitled "Fulfilled Prophecy: Evidence for the Reliability of the Bible". Here is an excerpt:

"Approximately 2500 prophecies appear in the pages of the Bible, about 2000 of which already have been fulfilled to the letter—no errors. (The remaining 500 or so reach into the future and may be seen unfolding as days go by.) Since the probability for any one of these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance averages less than one in ten (figured very conservatively) and since the prophecies are for the most part independent of one another, the odds for all these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance without error is less than one in 10{to the 2000th power} (that is 1 with 2000 zeros written after it)!"

The Jews disagree.

The word bollocks springs immediately to mind.

Don't know why.

Wow!!! So according to other books of the bible, other prophecies made in the bible came true!

That's just so completely unimpressive.

And you have already seen most of those claims demolished as well here:
