Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

A better question might be, "Can a person know the New Testament is true without being filled with the Holy Spirit?"

Actually, neither question is very good as they both are begging the questions of whether or not the New Testament is true in the first place and whether or not there is any such thing as a Holy Spirit. I might as well ask if a Chinese oolong (black dragon) can beat a French wyvern in a foot race.

Dpends. Is the Wyvern carrying a coconut?

The New Testament writers did tell the truth. People can argue about it all they want but if you were filled with the Holy Spirit you would know it for yourself.
You have repeated this comment in a couple of threads already. Again, you are speaking from a rather arrogant position. Much the same way you rather arrogantly attempted to disparage my wife.

Why do you assume that we aren't filled with the Holy Spirit? (what ever that means...) Why do you assume what you call "filled with the Holy Spirit" is even a good thing?

It's difficult to inflect sarcasm into a post properly sometimes. I know it wasn't a good question. A better way to phrase my question would be, "Could you persuade a thinking person who isn't already a believer that the NT is true, and if so, what evidence would you provide to do so?"

I felt that "Evidence?" by itself was just too terse.

I'm going with the French wyvern.

Ah, cool. I saw KK's post as being another one of those "Why do you hate God?" pieces of nonsense, which obviously blinded me to subtlety. :o

I'm going with the French wyvern.

To you and Simon, wagers will accepted until 23:00 GMT.

Do Chinese dragons even have legs anyway?

In many representations, they do not seem to...

But back to the main topic beofre everyone gets in trouble. The New Testament writers did tell the truth. People can argue about it all they want but if you were filled with the Holy Spirit you would know it for yourself.

The NT writers of course were "telling the truth", in that they were writing something they thought was truthful and meaningful for their audience.

However that doesn't mean what they wrote was perfect or was from God.

Each of the NT authors has a theme and you can clearly see those themes. Luke has a different view of Jesus than Mark, and John has a different view than both of those.

The things being posted in this thread are common bible scholarship. Are you saying that the Christian biblical scholars that have come to these conclusions are NOT spirit filled?

Are you going to answer the questions regarding DNA evidence in the thread created for it? If not, at least say so.

A serious question:

Since you obviously "know" this by yout gut feelings, why should someone like me, for instance, believe that YOUR gut feeling is any more valuable than the gut feelings of a member of a rival religion ?

How many religions do you know that have spread rapidly and peacefully in a brutal militarily occupied land where many of the followers (including its leader) were killed (without traveling to some deserted place like the Mormons), and how many religions do you know have respected Phd's in astrophysics claim publicly for years that the religion has about 2000 fulfilled prophecies to the letter, no mistakes.

And how many religions do you know that have a person like Benny Hinn that can travel to a foreign country (like India) of a different religion and draw a million people.

What's wrong with discussing Mormonism? By deliberately excluding this, you are getting into special pleading. For example, "How many religions do you know that were instituted as a state religion in China (other than Taoism, which I will call a philosophy so I can win this argument)?"

and how many religions do you know have respected Phd's in astrophysics claim publicly for several years that the religion has 2000 fulfilled prophecies to the letter, no mistakes.

Other than the fact that the claims in this link was already shown to be laughably wrong in your earlier thread on prophecy, here we now have argument from authority. 2 for 2.

And how many religions do you know that have a person like Benny Hinn that can travel to a foreign country (like India) of a different religion and draw a million people.

This guy and his religion probably qualify.

Yet another farcical attempt to dodge answering a serious question

Why are you still lying for your messiah, DOC?

has about 2000 fulfilled prophecies to the letter, no mistakes.

To qualify as a prophecy you'd first have to establish that the prophecy was written before the event. You also have the possibility that an author deliberately wrote to fulfill known prophecies (which is clearly the case with one of the NT authors, how many animals did Jesus ride into Jerusalem on in Matthew as a result of Matthew's mistranslation of Hebrew scripture?).

And how many religions do you know that have a person like Benny Hinn that can travel to a foreign country (like India) of a different religion and draw a million people.

Charlatans like Hinn? I wouldn't use him to represent Christianity, between his heretical preaching and his lavish misuse of donations, he represents the worst in people, not the best. He makes sure visibly sick people can't get onstage, while people with smaller problems get put in wheelchairs "for their safety" so they can stand up and awe the crowd. He said he would provide evidence for his healings, but didn't. His lavish lifestyle and misuse of donations has him under scrutiny, but he won't join an organization created by Christians for financial responsibility. People have taken their sick baby out of hospital to get healed, but the baby died at the service. On and on.

Not to mention that once again you make an appeal to popularity. If 1 million to Hinn is impressive, why aren't you impressed by 40 million Hindus gathering?
