I fell into drinking too much in my 30's when I started liking wine because I did not want to use pain meds.(wine seemed better) when I first started having back trouble. I had a lot of fun friends who liked to get me out and that's when I started not caring enough about the right things. God has changed this for me now but I do still have stuggles with pain management in my life. I hate drugs as I am a recovering addict /alcoholic, health problems were at the root of it. I have learned quick fixes do not work, but God does! Jesus has given me peace now but he does not give peace like the world. I know everything we go through in this life is only a blink compared to eternity!

Hey joobz I finsihed High School and became a young mother by 19 so when I did try to go back to College as a single mom I just couldn't keep up that kind of a schedule.

I teach college and have multiple students who have little children. Your story isn't unique. But besides this, attending college and understanding science are not synonymous. You can get a degree in liberal arts and know nothing of science. Or you could be a highschool drop out and speak intelligently on the fundementals of astrophysics. I do not care what your education is, only that you can back up your claim that you understand the basics of science.

My little girl was more important. So obviously I did not even get to sign up for these science college classes so explaining them isn't an option. I did do pretty well in algebra at the time but I do not remember any of it now since I haven't used it.

In High School I was your typical American girl just wanting to get out of there and have fun. I found school boring except for my friends so you will just have to take me at face value, I'm no book worm. I do read some but not what most of you guys read. I find more Christian authors works edifying.

I do many of my studies through DVD and audio cirriculum since this is how I learn best. God willing if I get stronger/more healing after 2 surgeries then I still may choose to take some college courses if God allows me the time, but probably will choose Biola or Moody University home study. I'm just not thinking I need a college degree at this point.( 46 with health problems) I am not able to do any full time work anymore. My heart is for sharing the gospel message now, how can college help me better do that?

College isn't for everyone. Attend if you want. Don't if you don't want. I support you either way. But don't lie about saying you can grasp scientific principles when you obviously don't.

It's never been "proven wrong." And it's been backed up by tens of thousands of scientists. Scientists from all different sorts of backgrounds and disciplines. Geologists find things that support evolution completely separately from biologists. No scientific discipline has encountered something that goes against what another discipline has learned independently. Discoveries in DNA support the earlier works. Each new step in scientific advancement provides more, not less, support for the theory of evolution. Only a handful of scientists (and the term is used loosely for some of them) deny it.

Your lack of knowledge of the scientific method is frightening in someone who is so sure about scientific theory. You are certain that you know "the truth" about scientific theories, yet you clearly do not understand how science works. You do realize that the computer you're typing on is a product of "evil" science, don't you? And the medical advances that keep us alive and well much longer than our ancestors? And the car you drive, the TV you watch, the microwave you use? All here because of science.

So you enjoy the benefits of science and take advantage of what science has provided you, but you refuse to acknowledge science when it makes you uncomfortable or disagrees with something you want to believe. Does that about sum it up?

Doc, Narconon get people off drugs. Is that proof of scientology?

No, but it is some evidence if it is true, just like the many people I've seen on Christian TV who have claimed Jesus got them off drugs is evidence. I have yet to see anyone on TV claim Narconon got them off drugs. And Jesus has been around for 2000 years unlike Narconon. Until I hear testimony from many people (and not just a lot of scientology figures) then from my experience Christianity has the better track record.

Also, FYI I once had a thread in the religious section entitled "Has the power of atheism ever gotten anyone off drugs".

What evidence do you have that Xenu did not cure them?

None, just like Houkele has no evidence that Christ did not help KK. But since Jesus is the main figure of the greatest selling book of all time and is a proven historical figure unlike Xenu (if you believe the 10 Non-Christian sources I have mentioned) I'll go with Jesus over Xenu and the former science fiction writer Hubblard who is the founder of Scientology.
