Ivy Leaguer 'infiltrates' Falwell's University

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kevin Roose managed to blend in during his single semester at Liberty University, attending lectures on the myth of evolution and the sin of homosexuality, and joining fellow students on a mission trip to evangelize partyers on spring break.

Roose had transferred to the Virginia campus from Brown University in Providence, a famously liberal member of the Ivy League. His Liberty classmates knew about the switch, but he kept something more important hidden: He planned to write a book about his experience at the school founded by fundamentalist preacher Jerry Falwell.

Each conversation about salvation or hand-wringing debate about premarital sex was unwitting fodder for Roose's recently published book: "The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner's Semester at America's Holiest University."

Seems like it'll be an interesting book, I'll be ordering myself a copy. Thoughts?

ETA: Ok I had to add one more quote.

He visited a campus support group for chronic masturbators, where students were taught to curb impure thoughts.

What?! :covereyes

Makes perfect sense - fundies are constantly being prodigies of mental masturbation. And Falwell is perfect whack-off material for them!!

Thank you for for the burned-in mental image of a Bible centerfold picture of Jerry in a bustier.

Cripes! Wasn't there a study that said masturbation was good for you? Especially for males, something to do with the prostate gland or something.

If there's not I'd certainly like to think there was.

I don't think this benefit measures up to the consequence of burning in hell for eternity.

I really don't know how this guy managed to stay there so long. I don't think I could have stayed more than 45 minutes without totally losing the few shreds of sanity I have left.

And the D'uh!-Award of the year goes to the wankers (ha!) that needed a study to find this out.

.... or something, yes.

I wonder how many days of my life it would have to cost me befoire I'd deny a net-benefit ....

Read the proposal for a Christian porn, I'm pretty sure that's a joke site. :p

Hard to say. The problem is that it is not so far crazy to be parody, so it could be parody or not.

Here are their rules for threesomes

(1) To avoid the impropriety of male homosexuality, a heterosexual couple should not under any circumstances form a threesome with another man.
(2) Both women involved in the threesome must be willing to keep within traditional female roles (i.e., not taking on masculine appearance or behavior in or out of the bedroom) and recognize the male as the leader in the relationship.
(3) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is unmarried, it may be permissible for the husband to have relations with her only with his wife’s consent.
(4) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is unmarried, but the wife does not wish her to have relations with the other woman, the husband should respect this.
(5) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is married, her husband must not have objections to the relationship.
(6) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is married, the husband should refrain from having any sexual relations with her, and should make every effort to control his fantasies about her. He should concentrate his attention on his own wife.

So it is hard to say if they are parody, or someone trying to resolve modern sexuality with the bible.

I Looked Inside the book on Amazon.com...

...the campus punishes hugs ("inapropriate body contact") and the possession of R-rated movies with stiff fines and/or community service.

I read the list of rules and momentarily wondered if Liberty University could be located somewhere in Iran.
