Texas: Secede!!

The irony of the religious belief that the union MUST stay together by those same in the thread calling texas "jesusland" is not lost on me

I seem to recall there was this war that cost us the most lives of any war we ever fought that had something to do with this issue...

So what? Half of this nation hates the other half and has for many years. This is like a bad marriage and it could be better for all involved to just go their separate ways.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you a perfect example of Obama Derangement Syndrome.

This is silly. Texans love being Texans but they love being Americans even more.

ETA: Well, except for a good chunk of hippies here in Austin who hate being both.

Texas will not secede but, Texas is one of few states that could easily form itself into a functioning country. It has the population, natural resources, manufacturing base, a world class deep water port and 40%of the United States refining and chemical infrastructure not to mention a nuclear arsenal at least as large as France and Britain. It also has one of the largest concentration of military bases in the country. It is entirely self sufficient in food production and has one of the best Medical Centers in the world. Once the war between Houston and Dallas decides where the national Capitol should be located is settled the rest is a piece of cake. If we Annex Louisiana then we would have a near monopoly on oil and gas production and refining and 2 major warm water ports. The more I think about it the better it sounds.

Tex, why do you hate America?

American by birth, Texan by the grace of God!

Rings true with a lot of people I know.

Hippies are good at makin' computers, and music, and stuff. Oh, and keepin' Austin weird.

Too be quite candid: I think an independent Texas would bring a bit of charm to North America. Kinda like Switzerland... with less yodeling.

There's more yodeling here than you or I would care to imagine.

They should give up on other people, gather their pride and go for full Republic status. Or reclaim it, more accurately:

I didn't take the link, but that's the the Republic of Texas kooks that wound up getting shot up by Rangers and sheriff's deputies while Rick McClaren called on the radio for the U.N. to come save him is it?

Texans might get so fed up that they push for it, but he (Perry) doesn't think its a good idea= We should start a secession movement?
That's a pretty long reach you got there, Pard.

While some of the wingnuts are cheering the idea/cashing in on it, apparently this sentiment has a very short shelf life in 2009 Texas - Obama or no Obama.

Beat me to it. ;)

Aggie mating calls perhaps? I knew there was something about Perry I didn't quite like.

Country stations with playlists older than Brooks and/or Dunn mostly.

Texas and Quebec need to secede so they can start the texmex-french wars. It'll be legendary. Glenn Beck can even ride on a bomb.

It would make a great buffer between the rest of the US, and mexico.. we know you guys will take care of dem mexicans, for us, better than the Fed would do.

I saw Tom Delay on Hardball yesterday. He said the Federal Government needed to stay out of Texas's business, and basically stated that he was for the rights of Texas over the rights of the US government. This is coming from a man who was the leader of the House of Representatives, just a few short years ago. That same kind of language was used back in the mid 1800's.

I expect some day will bring a revolution that will probably destroy the United states as we know it. I fully expect that our religious differences will be our demise, but do these nuts understand the consequences of another civil war. One that involves nukes. What do you think would happen if Texas or a group of Southern States, tries to grab all the armaments within their borders and secede from the US. There probably wouldn't be much of a Texas or United States left when it's over, and no, Jesus would not be coming back to take what little remains of his people home.
