Texas: Secede!!

So I got it backwards. Like I said, I wasn't paying enough attention.....

But thanks for the correction.

No worries. Hey dontcha think if this Texas secession thing ever gained momentum we'd have some helpful tips for our brothers down south??

Tip #1: If you're putting secession up for a referendum - make the question simple!

Tip #2: The Band-Aid Approach - Canadian politics has been consumed intermittently by Quebec separation for decades. Was it better to draw it out and tease the whole thing along? Or should we have just let them go very quickly - like the way you take off a band-aid? Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like to just let them go - and then get back to business and not have to worry about that ◊◊◊◊ anymore...;)

1. I'd like to apologize on behalf of my fellow Texans. Please forgive the secessionist nutjobs. They're not too bright.
2. If Texas did secede, we wouldn't have to remove but one word from our tourism slogan. Texas - Its Like a Whole Other Country.

Thanks. Living in Texas for 23 years now, being heavily involved in the C/ID debate, and painfully aware of the shenannigans in Austin with the SBOE, I was totally unaware of that fact. ;)
When you list your location as "USAian is not a word" (not that I disagree with that sentiment) how am I supposed to know you live in Texas?

You guys should have elected Kinky....

If you are serious, no, there is no limit on secessionist talk. Other than the risk that people will laugh at you. It's quite common after an election.

I'm wondering is that more law or by existing practice? Wouldn't something solid have been written down before, during, or after the Civil War? I'm ignorant on the details, but it seems people have been laughing so far, but if the talk ever became much more realistic, the tone would change quick.

It seems lately things are at least a bit more serious.

FYI, the inevitable political backlash strikes...

Democrats say Texas Gov. Perry should disavow 'reckless' talk about secession from US

Nutjobs like Gov. Perry are going to be giving the Republican establishment fits for some time, methinks. I've already seen the commentary sections on a few news stories filled with comments from Texans, 95% of which are calling Perry an absolute nut.

My favorite was when someone asked: "Why does Gov. Perry hate America?"

This is too entertaining

The irony of the religious belief that the union MUST stay together by those same in the thread calling texas "jesusland" is not lost on me

So you don't live in Kansas, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Florida, etc.

Oh wait! The C/IDers are only active in Texas according to the smug nabobs on this forum.

Ouch, ya got a point there. After all we do keep electing "Magic Bullet Arlen" to the Senate.

I double-checked. The only other mention of "Jesusland" in this thread is from Brainster.

Fail.

I don't think Perry's a nutjob. He's just stupid. Really, really stupid. But he has nice hair, ala Blago.

Texas will not secede but, Texas is one of few states that could easily form itself into a functioning country. It has the population, natural resources, manufacturing base, a world class deep water port and 40%of the United States refining and chemical infrastructure not to mention a nuclear arsenal at least as large as France and Britain. It also has one of the largest concentration of military bases in the country. It is entirely self sufficient in food production and has one of the best Medical Centers in the world. Once the war between Houston and Dallas decides where the national Capitol should be located is settled the rest is a piece of cake. If we Annex Louisiana then we would have a near monopoly on oil and gas production and refining and 2 major warm water ports. The more I think about it the better it sounds.

Too bad all those military installations and all their armaments belong to the USA. One can dream, though...

Wow. Obama hasn't been president for three months, and already the conservatives are heading full speed to milita craziness.
No it is just an interesting concept. I will say this, Obama has vowed to fundamentally change the United States and there are millions of folks that like it as it is.
