Chávez: America Bad, Russia Good.

Every country has bad history bro.

The USA is the only country to use nuclear weapons offensively. That is bad. Right now russia is thinking about getting on a gold standard while the United states is debating on whether Marijuana should be legal and nationalizing banks! Russia is acting better than the US right now. America is a communist country! AMERICA is the one at war with Afghanistan right now! They switched roles. It's like freaky friday!
I started a thread critisizing America for the bomb and boy did I get my ass handed to me. :o

I don't think America is innocent. I don't think America is an evil empire either. Hell, I didn't even agree with the Reagan rhetoric about the Soviet Union and they actually murdered tens of millions.

It's the constant drone of the evil empire US meme that drives me nuts. A little honesty would be nice from time to time.

Hee hee! Is that the US whose institutionalized financial corruption and rampant banksterism brought the world’s financial system to its knees?

Corrupt US power is crumbling rapidly. Its reputation is in tatters on multiple fronts . Russia is taking up the baton of responsible world leadership now that the US financial criminal delinquency has been so starkly exposed.

Well, nice to know a nation that isn't corrupt is doing it. Never mind the human rights abuses, the systemic corruption of organized crimea and the bloody history of oppression and genocide.

In the end Russia isn't America and that's all that matters.

Oh, and for what it's worth, the rumor of our demise is a bit premature.

Yeah. Hey, I've been wrong before and it is likely I'll be wrong again. :)

Don´t try your luck in CT´s circles, that attitude will get you kicked out.:D

I throught this tread was about how realpolitik look remarkably like hipocrism.

How does that translate into me thinking that "Putin is the salvation of the world"?

Putin is the de facto dictator of Russia. And you certainly seem to be going out of your way to glorify Russia and whitewash their crimes with American crimes.

I still don't see how this translates into me thinking that "Putin is the salvation of the world".

The only crimes I have mentioned are US America's financial crimes, which represent historic irresponsibility.

Where have I glorified Russia?

I have said that Putin "took up the mantle of leadership and control that the UK and US have lost with their disastrous economic policies" and that "Russia is taking up the baton of responsible world leadership now that the US financial criminal delinquency has been so starkly exposed."

Putin's speech appears to represent an honest, responsible and realistic assessment of and approach to the world's economic crisis. Perhaps you think otherwise.

To my mind, I am simply describing historical events.

Your belief that I am glorifying Russia and that this therefore means I think "Putin is the salvation of the world" is your interpretation, not what I think.

And that Russia is a thinly veiled dictatorship does not give you qualms about them taking up the Baton of world leadership?
This thread just confirms what I have thought for quite a while: That all the eternal talk on the far left about "Human Rights" and "freedom " is just a bunch of BS. They don't give a damn about either. They just want total power to create their little Utopia (with them in charge, of course) and crush anybody who does not agree with it. Indivudal Liberty does not have a large place in their universe.

Could you elaborate?

We are in a serious situation but it's no where near dire. Historically there have been much, much worse. For America the great depression comes to mind.

In any event, if we are to be intelectually honest, the finacial mess is the result of greed, arrogance and human falibility. There's no grand CT nor is this simpy the result of crimes.

The fact is that there's really no economic or political system to ensure that humans don't #@$% up. The Nestle fiasco I pointed out earlier was the result of a Swiss company.

At the end of the day, the truth is, the sky really isn't falling. Perspective would be nice. No one said that capitalism or socialism could gurantee there would never be people who would exploit the system for their personal gain to the detriment of others. That's the nature of economic systems.

sounds like the free market capitalists. give a damn about human rights and such crap, but you need free market policys.....

capitalism in short.
And capitalism has provided more opportunity, more medical advances, more medicine, more middle class citizens and generally more freedom than any other system.

And no other system is free of greed and human fallibility.

I'm not against hybrid socialism and capitalistic systems but I would never want to live in a world without capitalism. Which is why China has allowed capitalism to grow and why Russia has allowed private individuals to own and operate businesses.

I don't get why it's so hard for people to understand such a simple concept. Millions died under communism because there was no incentive to innovate and find solutions to the problems people need on the scale that capitalism can.

Now America is going hat in hand to China because of China's capitalism. China isn't simply giving wheat to Americans the way Americans gave wheat to Russia. China is buying our financial instruments.

You gotta love that. A communist nation investing in the icon of capitalism because of their own capitalism. And yes, the irony of China wondering if they aren't overexposed in America isn't lost on me. And skip the strawman, America was never based on the concept that there would never be hard times. Only that we would have more good times than bad. Given our record that is not arguable. America is a nation of fat poor people. Explain that one? Poor people in third world nations are not fat.

Now, this isn't to say we can't do better. This isn't to say that an increase in socialism couldn't help. But note that there are some socialist nations that are having problems also.

?

Capitalism provides citizens the luxury of caring about human rights which is why I can call my political leaders idiots, travel around the country without papers, join private clubs, have a right to due process, have the right not to remain silent if arrested, have a right against illegal search and seizure, etc., etc.

It always amazes me that you simply don't care about the facts.

Oh, and the OP? Care to comment?
