In super pilot world, you pull out your spare radio from Sportys, and you talk.
That's funny! Many homebuilts/experiment types only have one of these handheld radios.
Total NORDO is virtually unheard of in today's world, (except in really old stuff flying out of a cow pastures) as most civilian aircraft have at least two two-way radios plus two Nav receivers. One way communications are possible on the Nav receivers (VOR frequency) as if the ATC agency in control realizes the aircraft is NORDO, they can transmit over that VOR frequency and request the aircraft to squawk ident if he is receiving and go from there.
During beachnut's and my training days the aircraft had only one two-way and one Nav receiver. It was not uncommon to lose one of them. Nowdays, virtually all aircraft, military or civilian have multiple radios.
Total electrical failure is quite rare in today's world, but it can and does happen.
