In World War II, many people died. More people died fighting the war than died as a result of the plan to exterminate jews. Using the standard of "less death", wouldn't it have been more moral to simply leave Hitler unopposed?

Supposing that's the only standard we use, "which option causes less death," then we'd also have to consider the future cost of life in not acting. If we do, it may be that inaction causes more death in the long run than action. However, morally I think we have to say that there is a difference between soldiers dying and innocent people dying. One implies that a person has a certain amount of choice over there fate, and also that fate is unknown.

Also, your question may be fundamentally flawed because you are asking me to decide the merits of a decision for which the results are already known, when the results themselves were probably influenced by that decision. And of course, in complex situations there are other reasons for action besides just the simplistic "saving life," although of course I do think that life is the most valuable thing we have, it is not the only thing of value.

Can you explain how physical evidence can only be perceived/understood with "faith" yet it is not possible without it?

That's not "ironic". That's what faith does: it makes you see things that aren't there. It's called magical thinking.

Yes, it is ironic. Generally speaking, "evidence that can only be seen through the eyes of faith" means "delusion". Or at best "cherry-picked to support one's preconceptions".
