Having said that, this seems to be no less petty and irrelevant than some of the stupid stuff that was brought up in the last eight years to discredit Bush, so this doesn't surprise me in the least.

Looking at it that way, I can now see why they served the beef: If the world is going to laugh at me because I choked on my food and nearly suffocated, it should at least be really decent food, well worth suffocating for and not something trivial like a Pretzel ...![]()
This is the pettiest thing I've ever seen.
What else? Protests about the serving of Champagne in the White House because you can get all-American 'sparkling wine' from Wal-mart? What if the president is wearing a tailored suit on the world stage? He could have a got one off the peg at Wal-mart too.
the funny thing is, i remember when limbaugh & co. Made fun of bill clinton for ordering at mcdonalds.
I guess you just can't win with some people.

Thank you, Miss Kitt, for attempting to put sanity into a weird thread.Er, um?
Could we see a show of hands of people who think that Senators are going to be put in a convival and cooperative mood by being served tofu and sprouts? A low-meat stirfry?
From the perspective of an objective observer, while the mild hypocrisy of serving expensive food at a dinner about the economic crisis may be amusing (...)
I thought the problem was that the economy is stagnating, and that people are afraid to spend money. I also thought that part of the proposed solution is for the government to spend more money on public works, in an effort to inject money and confidence into the market.
So if the cure is to spend on government projects, how can it be hypocritical to spend on food? I'm confused.
What about fried chicken and watermelon? As to the rest: had he served up ribs, would anyone have commented on that? They are high fat as well. Also yummy.
