White House serves heart attack on a plate

Having said that, this seems to be no less petty and irrelevant than some of the stupid stuff that was brought up in the last eight years to discredit Bush, so this doesn't surprise me in the least.

Looking at it that way, I can now see why they served the beef: If the world is going to laugh at me because I choked on my food and nearly suffocated, it should at least be really decent food, well worth suffocating for and not something trivial like a Pretzel ... :duck:

Well, we sniped at W for lots of infractions both real and perceived, it'll be interesting to see how folks like Limbaugh try to make hay outta Obama trivialities. This thread, case in point; and so it has begun.

:D :D :D

Friends don't let dumb friends eat pretzels.

If I eat at the White House, I expect good food.

This is the pettiest thing I've ever seen.

What else? Protests about the serving of Champagne in the White House because you can get all-American 'sparkling wine' from Wal-mart? What if the president is wearing a tailored suit on the world stage? He could have a got one off the peg at Wal-mart too.

The funny thing is, I remember when Limbaugh & Co. made fun of Bill Clinton for ordering at McDonalds.

I guess you just can't win with some people.

1. It was not a dinner. It was appetizers.
2. It was not a dinner. It was appetizers.
3. It was not a dinner. It was appetizers.

4. What was the budget? Was the total budget more or less than normal?
5. Do you think the White House ever serves, I dunno, lobster? Caviar? Truffles (freedom truffles)? Champagne? French wine? German wine? Fine brandies? french cheeses?
6. There were probably 38 people there. What would the cost of 38 appetizers of Kobe beef be (hint: not a heck of a lot)? Say $5-10 a person. Compared to the probably $20-$50 they drank per person.
7. Now compare that to the costs of: kitchen staff, wait staff, reception staff, security, planning, invitations, heat and lighting, cleaning.

Wagyu? Heaven forfend.

According to the news report I saw it was American wagyu anyway.

Why hate on Japan?

Well, as I heard from some fellow on Deviant Art, it's because Asia is inferior to the western world in every possible way. Evidence: Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Ergo, we're superior.

Ban all Asian imports! No more inferior products! Burn anime and manga!

Yeah. Just let me netflix some of the rare good stuff...

(Let's see... remake of Metropolis... Hellsing... Cowboy Bebop...)

Er, um?

Could we see a show of hands of people who think that Senators are going to be put in a convival and cooperative mood by being served tofu and sprouts? A low-meat stirfry?
Thank you, Miss Kitt, for attempting to put sanity into a weird thread.

As for the dinner: mmmm, yummy marbled beef. As for Bama: had to spend all those extra millions from the campaign on something. On meat? Good idea. Get's the meat eating voter to appreciate him a bit more.

As to the rest: had he served up ribs, would anyone have commented on that? They are high fat as well. Also yummy.

From the perspective of an objective observer, while the mild hypocrisy of serving expensive food at a dinner about the economic crisis may be amusing (...)

I thought the problem was that the economy is stagnating, and that people are afraid to spend money. I also thought that part of the proposed solution is for the government to spend more money on public works, in an effort to inject money and confidence into the market.

So if the cure is to spend on government projects, how can it be hypocritical to spend on food? I'm confused.

Very good point.

:boxedin:

I'm going to hell, I just know it, I'm going to hell...

How nice, someone got the joke. As for where you're going, I don't expect you are too worried about it. ;)
