I've noticed a pattern on this forum. Seems the discussion usually involves one person of opposing view that then jousts with 5, 6 or 7 members of the prevailing view. So far Makaya325's journey through JREF land has gone pretty much as I suspected it would. However I'm somewhat impressed with the young man's/woman's tenacity. After all he/she is facing odds of 7 to 1 and hasn't flinched. So if it takes 7 hardboiled skeptics to subdue one fallow youth what would happen if you all had to engage the opposing views with something resembling even odds?

Oh, let me answer that one. Heres what will happen.

You will tell them facts and data, truth and reality and genuinely try to help them.

They will then call you names, come back with all kinds of "obtuse" accusations as a personal attack ( such as accusing you of saying things the post CLEARLY doesnt indicate) When you stand them down on their false claims they will then hide behind the almighty ban button and refuse to answer legitimate questions. When asked nicely again, they silently ban you.

Oh I can answer that one. He makes valid, reasonable arguments. He has some unorthodox beliefs that many here may disagree with, but he presents them in a way that shows he has thought carefully about them and carefully read other people's opinions. And he admits he doesn't have all the answers.

What would happen? You mean like if Sweaty, MOTS, Munns, makaya, LAL, lyndon, log, historian, creekfreak, and Teaberryeagle to boot were all to post around the same time? It would be like some sort of turkey harvest. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

As a casual observer of the BFF, I would think that Brian Brown (Bipto) should be held accountable for all BFF travesties against common human intellect and normal social propriety. He sets the tone, yes?

I don't agree with him on many many issues but the kid still on his feet. I predict that if he keeps it up sooner or later you'll run out of boilder plate counters. In other words he'll figure out the formula of this place and once he has it he'll run circles around the pack. I hope he's been paying attention.

It's easy to maintain your position when you have no intention of examining any information that might modify it.

Show me one reply of mine to any bit of ignorance from makaya that wasn't appropriate given that ignorance. Or were you just trying to hit it with your purse?

I make the posts that I want to make. The issue of the PGF has not been decided one way or the other to my satisfaction. Certain issues concerning it have been decided to my satisfaction. Certain issues of the entire BF issue have been resolved to my satisfaction. Now around my place every so often something does go bump in the night but never once does BF ever enter into the question of what the hey was that? Just remember the day when the issue is decided to everyone's satisfaction you'll have nothing to do anymore.

You don't get it do you? No one has a problem with anyone holding a different point of view. No one is saying that you have to agree with anyone. However, we do want to know the other person's reasoning. He presents sub-par evidence, doesn't read the threads, re-presents already highlighted errors of reasoning as evidence, and simply doesn't put up a good argument.

I predict that he'll run out of boiler plate pro-BF arguments and then repeat the old ones all over again. If you think there is a formula to this place, do you believe you've figured that out and are running around others? I haven't seen you present well researched and supported reasoning. Just comments about how 'we' operate and a bunch of cheer-leading.

I'm the one jealous now. We closed out our T&T project in early Dec when we got awarded our new project as a sub under a very large firm. Now we "officially" own a "piece" of all "Harvest Falcon" FOB's in ( you guessed it) the warm friendly sands of....Afghanistan for LOGCAP IV.

Lets see, I traded a Caribbean Island with "Carnival", cheap beer and what can be argued as some of the most beautiful women on Earth for body armor, warm bottled water, occasional sniper fire/attacks and a reinforced bunker.

This is more for Mak but I'm dovetailing off of your statement.

The above is basically correct and my "beliefs' are mainly formed from personal experience. ( some of which I cannot explain fully- but that doesnt mean there is an explanation or my perception is the correct one, it just means that I dont know what I dont know)

The "secret" is- a belief is a belief, a fact is a fact- the 2 are not the same and in many cases, they directly contradict each other.

I have no problem stating my "beliefs" and can state that no one here has ever ostracized me for that ( bearing in mind that legitimate questioning/cross examining or commenting on said belief isnt ostracizing) because I state a belief and the reason i hold it. Nothing more. I do NOT "argue" or promote my beliefs/experiences as a "fact" because they arent. I absolutely do NOT attempt to sell, promote or "push" my beliefs on anyone.

The thing is Mak, you have a tendency to state 1 liners and not answer direct questions when adversely confronted about your statements and that irks people.

Boards like this are where a free exchange of ideas/thoughts are and for it to work- it has to be 2 way.

Dont ignore people when they challenge you on your posts. Respond to them respectfully with the information you use to form your opinion. Opinions are neither right or wrong- they are just personal thoughts relative to the individual. Dont be afraid to learn, be corrected and if shown to be incorrect, man up and admit it.

Pretty simple really.
