While I personally think that the censorship in the US Media is ridiculous concerning any not even gruesome or naked image - and while I really like the Idea of Youtube, I think that all those actual Suicide-, Murder-, Autopsy-, Accident-Videos are a little bit too harsh for a young audience.

Just watched a clip about a naked women getting autopsied and "emptied" in every little detail including the brain - and another one where someones leg is being amputated - the clips didn't even have the usual "age verification" or warning, so what's up with all the gore - and why isn't a Family-Association or the Bible-Belt going ballistic about this [as they usually would]?

YouTube is self policing, so did you report it?

Exactly. If they're fairly soon after posting, nobody may have reported it as needing the "inappropriate" tag.

In any case, you want some gore, especially for important issues like wars? That's what LiveLeak is for.

If you want full-out gore, that's what ogrish.com is for. You have been warned.

So it's the evil Americans' fault if you got to see graphic videos of an autopsy on Youtube?

What were you doing looking it up in the first place? Not to mention you seem to have watched it all the way through, for some reason.

But it's the Americans' fault, of course.

Yes. But there are hundreds of those clips - so I wonder why Youtube didn't implement any auto-filter yet for videos with gruesome or sexual titles or descriptions to review them before publishing the files.

Ah, the sentence that always precedes "I think something should be censored."

Not necessarily censored, but at least reviewed by Youtube.

Why those Websites exist on US-Servers is beyond me given the way the MSM handles any offensive/violent content - so what's up with the usual morality-crowd being outraged about things like that?

Your confusion is entirely because of your own ignorance, I can assure you.

There is no government censorship in the US except for the 7 dirty words and nudity on stationsbroadcast over the public airwaves. There is no censorship at all on cable, satellite, the internet, or print media.

I don't understand this, Oliver. You usually critic Americans for being too close-minded and prudish, now you're criticizing them for not being enough?

That may be, even if a broad part of the Internet is self-censored according to the general social perception concerning probably offending material, but I still wonder where the "morality-police" is since that kind of footage is quite a different level compared to a naked tit or someone saying the n-word, for example - or did I simply miss the public outrage about it?

Oliver, what were you doing looking for such a video, and why did you watch it all the way through?

If people weren't looking for them, maybe they wouldn't be put on the web. Did you think about that?

Nope, I'm just wondering about the big contrasts and the lack of outrage that I would expect based on the general opinion I usually sense in an English-speaking environment regarding much less problematic content. That's not meant to be a critique.

Well, someone in the CT section did post a comic of "Budd Dwyer", the politician who shot himself in front of the media. So I wondered if there is still a clip of that on Youtube, and sure enough, there were several clips of the incident. In the "Videos like this" section on the right, there was a lot of other gore, including the autopsy, which -btw- I didn't watch in realtime, but used the time-slider to fast-forward the clip to see what happens throughout the video.

No, you simply have no clue as to what Americans actually think. You operate on a cartoonish stereotype.

You were able to see a video of an autopsy on YouTube? Really? I've never come across anything so graphically violent on YouTube but then, I've never actively searched for it.

Usually, YouTube is very, very good about providing warnings to objectionable videos.

Then you must have encountered the "age verification" page, right?

... said the Palestinian Expert. :p

But seriously: You surely know about the outrage of religious and parent-groups concerning muuuch less offensive content as well, do you not?

Reviewed and then what???

Concerning the Dwyer-Suicide, yes - the autopsy and the amputation worked without the verification. It may be that you have to confirm your age only once and that there will be no second warning for flagged content.
