Inauguration Crap

Is congress 12 % black?

I wouldn't want to mandate 100% black or 12% black. I'm fine with eliminating racism and most people seem to agree that racism is a bad thing. So policies like affirmative action which fill slots based on race should be obviously be outlawed.

Logic. You're doing it wrong. This is just painfully fallacious.

Look, bub -- We just got rid of a truly disastrous president and elected a bright and charismatic man who happens to be our first black president, so you'll just have to excuse us if we go a bit giddy and unrealistic for a while. It will pass soon enough.

Fair point but the previous chap set the bar so spectacularly low - why not let him canter around a few low poles first.

You forgot the most important part - he's the first POTUS who's a Sox fan!

eta: Note the properly broken in hat. Compare/contrast to other politicians who pose with hats that have never been worn before.

Sorry, I may have went too fast.

Racism:
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

Affirmative Action:
Policies that take gender, race, or ethnicity into account in an attempt to promote equal opportunity. (See Racism, esp. part 1.)

That will make the Cubs fans hate him.
They have the Secretary of State posing with said never worn before sports cap:

When she's not a Yankees fan of course.

Oh, and Blagojevich is a Cubs fan... :dl:

Don't forget, Obama's election was just a down payment on MLK's dream. America is just less racists now.

Anyone see Cheney in his wheelchair? If he hadn't perfected his Dr Evil impersonation in the last eight years he appeared to be determined to perfect it in his last hours.

I producing a book written by a female physicist. This afternoon she sent me an email containing this:
Sorry about that -- I was a bit giddy after hearing an inaugural
address that actually contained the words "data", "statistics",
"science", and "curiosity"....

The worst case I have seen is when Feinstein, who is from San Francisco and was a die hard SF Giants fan during her years as mayor of San Francisco, was seen wearing a LA Dodgers jacket while campaiging in Southren California.
Giants fans and Dodgers fans, have, let us say, a history.....

I used the label 'Mulatto' in response to MetalPig's response to Dictator Cheney who used the label 'Black'. But I'm sure you were about to note Dictator Cheney's use of the Black label so you probably knew that already...

If memory serves, Obama identifies himself as (primarily) Black. I've noticed you pressing the point that he's not actually Black, but rather Mulatto; I find your steadfast re-labeling interesting.

...Why did I use the other labels? Because I assume a certain level of understanding in the readers here and I can just refer to concepts by their name rather than spelling everything out. And changing what I wrote…[snipped to save space]…but it doesn't really roll off the tongue...

I asked because the labels you used are notoriously, inflammatorily employed by the nutters on the far right to describe anyone that doesn't fit their narrow and rigid criteria for a 'proper' American. Particularly when used in the vicinity of your apparent pet issue regarding Obama's ethnic self identity, your preoccupation with labels seems interesting...but I will take you at your word.

...In addition, he should have a well rounded educational background in all or most major aspects of running a country, such as economics, history, sociology, foreign policy, science. Alternatively, if he at least has a demonstrated grasp of these subjects and a demonstrated ability to appoint qualified experts in these areas that would be fine too. An ability to communicate effectively with the public would reassure them and help his ability to lead...

Your criteria preceding this quote about experience fit in the category of 'would be nice but not necessary' IMO, but I'm fine with disagreeing on that. W met many of them and, well, we've seen how well that buoyed him.

As for what I've quoted, I am convinced based upon his education, experience, words, and actions to date that he possesses ample understanding of the topics you cite. I think the most obvious attestation to Obama's leadership skills is that he has demonstrated open-mindedness in choosing 'consultants', a calm and confident demeanor, a deep education and clear devotion in the area of our country's primary document, and an ability to inspire others to action. The 'consultants' can provide the experience.

Otherwise, fair enough.
