Why do the jews call the gentiles by the name Goy? What does Goy mean?

Basically, gentile. You know, like everyone who is not a Mormon.

Er, it's Hebrew for "gentile."

See, Jews were around before the English language, so using the word "gentile" really wouldn't have worked unless time travel was involved.

Let me introduce you to Google...
First three results:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goyim
"Goy is a transliterated Hebrew word which translates as "nation" or "people". Historically and up to modern times it is a synonym for Gentile or non-Jew"

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=goy
"Hebrew and Yiddish term for a non-Jewish person; synonymous with "gentile." Usually neutral, despite persistent untrue rumors that it is derogatory."

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/goy
Yiddish, from Hebrew gōy people, nation

They probably simply use it for the same reason that Amish refer to people who aren't Amish as "English". In Amish culture, "English" means "not Amish", simple as that. In Jewish culture, "goy" means "not Jewish". Same thing.

Oy vey!

Moon, do you have stop and think that maybe you are wrong and are reading secret meanings where none exist?

BTW it is a synonym for gentile, and means nation or people.

Where did moon1969 claim it had a secret meaning?
It is through implication, because his question is easily answered by simply typing the term into any search engine. Also the fact that he has answered his own question in the OP. Many Jews call Gentiles Goy, because that is what they are. Why does my hispanic roommate call his friends Amigo?

Asking the question is actually leading to a conclusion that there is some darker meaning or lets say reason other than it merely being a culturally relevent synonym.

Goyim(all non Jews) means cattle, inferior and a Jew can steal lie do what they like then be forgiven by the Rabbi. Say one word against them and watch the race card come out. But not all Jews take the same view, some even are friends with Iran.

Care to prove that? (Without going to Stormfront or an Aryan Nation website)

Correct me if I am wrong, but Rabbis don't forgive Jews' sins. Confession is a Catholic rite.

So close to a correct prediction, but Old Bob snuck in before moon1969 could answer.

So, I don't quite know Hebrew, but my google-fu is strong and I found three words that mean cattle in Hebrew:

-bqr (we Jews don't need vowels, we're cool like that)
-son (theres some weird accents on that one, can't get them into here)
-b'ehēmā

None of the above are even remotely close to goy or goyim. Goyim is the origin word for goy, meaning nations.

EDIT: Also... how can someone be "friends with Iran?" What does that mean? I'm Jewish and I have a good friend who is from Iran, does that mean I'm friends with Iran? Technically I was born in a former Iranian province, does that mean I'm Iran? Oh man, I just blew my mind.

Was that a serious post?:confused:

Of course he could have Googled it but perhaps he wanted the forum's take on it.

There's nothing implying he suggested it had a secret meaning at all. You just made that up yourself

It was posted in Conspiracy Theories if he had an etymological question, I feel that this forum would be the wrong place to put it, maybe the Education forum, or the Religion forum. Putting a post like the OP into Conspiracy Theories implies a conspiracy of some sort, what the implied conspiracy is, I'm not quite sure.
