And even though I was doing a bit of trolling myself in response, since it was brought up I figure at least a couple of folks may be curious. This just came home with me (actually it's going under the Christmas tree, but it's a done deal):

The Walther P22 Target "First Addition" (one of the first 1,000 made so it has a special carrying case).

It's the same gun as the Walther shown on the last page, but as the salesman pointed out it's really more like two firearms. It has the standard 4" barrel as the one I posted earlier, but it also has an extended barrel attachment to convert it to 5" which makes for better target shooting.

In adddition, the attachment feature also serves as an adaptor if I ever wanted to add a suppressor to it. For those who only know guns from movies, perhaps you know "suppressor" better as a "silencer." Although to borrow Homer's line from the Simpsons episode about guns, "I don't really need one of those... yet." :cool:

Question. Yes I could Google but what fun is that? What is the likelihood of jamming for semi-automatics. I was talking to my boys about fire arms the other day. I grew up with guns but don't have any and haven't exposed my children to them. I want to be sure I'm not passing on spurious ideas. When I was a kid it was believed that a revolver was better, in part, because they didn't jam. However it was also believed that a well maintained quality firearm was very likely to serve you well in a tight situation.

As an aside, my kids, 14 - 20 all want to go to the pistol range now. I guess the desire to shoot doesn't need to be indoctrinated. :)

ETA: I should add that my daughter also has expressed a strong desire to shoot and learn more about guns.

I was told that you could stick a revolver in a dresser drawer, wait years, and then pull it out and fire it; with an automatic, less so. I'm not sure how true that is, though.

Overall, revolvers have fewer parts that are likely to break or malfunction. And if a round misfires, the gun clicks to the next chamber. I wouldn't say that it "never" jams, though; I'd imagine that if something kept the chamber from rotating, then it would jam, although I don't know how likely that would be.

Note: All of my knowledge was gained by osmosis from exposure to a gun nut friend and that one day I went to the local firing range while interested in buying a firearm. As such, take it with a grain of salt.

My Glock has had about 14,000 rounds put through it. It has misfired once, and once I got it unjammed I tried the same round and it again didn't fire. Chalked it up to bad ammo and it's never misfired again.

Now my FNP has a much lower rate, but I think that's my own fault. It never had a problem until I tried running very cheap ammo through it (they warn against using anything other than military grade bullets). Ever since then it's been misfiring about one round per box.

But even the one misfire which wasn't its fault is enough for me to keep a revolver as both my nightstand gun and usual carry piece. I'll occasionally put on the holster and take the Glock out but for the most part I carry the pocket Smith revolver, and although the same G-26 is next to it in the nightstand, the easiest-to-reach firearm is a full-size Smith model 64. If a Smith & Wesson wheelgun has ever misfired in their history, I'm yet to hear about it.

What makes it even more reliable is the fact it's been bead-blasted. In the dark, any light in the house can reflect off a gun and affect the accuracy. With all the chrome off, that's no longer an issue.

The FNP stays in the vault, at least until I take it to be serviced. So this is what any home intruder faces at the Drudgewire household:

And yes, they're all loaded at all times. Once I put the 10 Samurai swords up I got from the knife channel on satellite on the wall it just may be the least child-friendly apartment in the country.

Paranoid? Not at all. Just like the website I run that allows all forms of political incorrectness, I love celebrating the freedoms which drive some folks absolutely crazy most of all. :cool:

Yeah, it's called confirmation bias. In other words, it's what happens when you draw conclusions based on observational confirmation of preconceived belief. It's also ad-hominem to conclude someone is stupid just because he asks you, a gun bigot, a question. You then draw a conclusion by begging the question so add to that a circularity of reasoning and we've got one doozy of a logical mess.

But thanks for that. Nothing like fallacy and poor critical thinking skills to make a point.
 
I plan on going to medical school and becoming a doctor, and yet I've been looking at .22 bolt action rifles. My fiance wants to shoot with me, and she's smarter than I am.


My father, who's one of the smartest people I've ever met, who was a very successful banker, (VP at a large service center for one of the largest banks in the country,) has a few guns, and hunts occasionally.

These are people I know, so it's just as valid as saying "I know a few idiots who like guns so therefore all idiots like guns," right?
 
I'm just finding it ironic that all the people calling Obama socialist and communist, and who are rushing to buy guns are buying Communist designed AK's. That's good old fashioned capitalism for you.

I have heard on the news that firearm sales are up since the election but I had not heard the kind. I assume that you will provide us a link to some valid information demonstrating that it is indeed AK-47's and not imported handguns. Or perhaps it is AK-74's although I did not realize that they would have made much of an inroad on the suplus market yet.

Are you sure that it is the people calling the President-Elect names who are making the purchase? Your post sounds like that is what you are saying.

Now then you listed a whole bunch of things that can cause death. Let’s add choking on a peanut butter sandwich too it. The difference here, and its huge difference, is that nearly all of what you list cause death by accident. Now while a small number of accidental deaths occur with private firearms the overwhelming majority of them are intentional. But I'll give you this guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people.
